In our last session thanks to some haunting or similar from a bad guy we got in some player vs player fighting. Since we were all familiar with eachother's weaknesses it made for an interesting time.

Is there any good way to set up sparing within the rules of 5e? Something that would allow "blunt arrows" and harmless magic missiles to be fired?

Thanks in advance.

I might be relying on "DM is god and can do what they want" too much for your answer but yea. 5e rules allow for any attack (not just bludgeoning) to knock someone out. With magic it is a bit trickier but you can either homerule yes or just not hit someone after they are down and have someone on hand to stabilize them the second they fall

One option (if it fits within your world) would be to have non-lethal arenas.

My group just do 1v1 arenas, and declare them non-canon.

Stick your weapons, magic items, etc in this mockbox, close the lid, take the illusory one from that box & any wounds inflicted go away afteryou leave/are carried out of the ring

5e rules allow for any attack (not just bludgeoning) to knock someone out.

Ranged attacks do not get this option. They are always lethal.
