This is probably a stupid question but If I have a base attack bonus of +4/+1 do I have a base attack bonus of +5 (specifically asking for the Abjuratant Champion prestige class requirement).

BAB progresses as one attack until it reaches +6, at which point it becomes +6/+1. Every 5 BAB after it adds an attack until max at 4. So at +11/+6/+1 then +16/+11/+6/+1. The only other way your character should have another attack is with an offhand weapon, but that doesn't affect BAB.

Also, you don't add the numbers together like that. +6/+1 is not +7, it is two attacks. One at +6 and one at +1 BAB that you then add appropriate modifiers to. They are separate attacks.

......?
+4/+1 isn't a valid BaB amount to even have. You don't get an extra attack until BaB 6.

Now, to answer the question I believe you intended to ask, I'll let the PHB's section on BaB handle that:

If a character has more than one class (see Multiclass Characters, page 59), the base attack bonuses for each class are cumulative.

It's really best to think of your BAB as one number. The other numbers listed after the slashes are there mostly for convenience and to teach new readers how extra attacks are gained.

Out of curiosity, can you explain what factors (ability scores, classes, gear, etc.) are involved in your example? +4/+1 doesn't seem like a valid BAB value, so maybe with a little more information we can understand and help you get where you want to be.

No, it's not +5. It's one attack at +4, and one at +1.

He mentioned qualifying for Abjurant Champion, so we know he's not playing 3.0 and almost certainly isn't a Monk.

It's not actually +6/+1.

It's +6/+6, but with -5 on the second attack. The table is an abbreviation of that.

If what you mean which I believe it is then you have one class giving you +4 bab and another +1. You add bab from both classes together and at bab 6, 11 and 16 you gain the extra attacks alloted by your bab.

Thanks for the clarification on the rules.

(Also the +4/+1 was just for example not an actual BAB).

This is a pretty needless over-complication.... :smallsigh:

Your bab is always considered to be the first and biggest number on that segment of the table. A +16 bab character has a table that reads +16/+11/+6/+1. He has a base attack bonus of +16 and has three extra attacks while full attacking at -5,-10, and -15 respectively.

Its actually funny how people read the OP different ways.

At first glance, I too assumed "no, you don't get iteratives until BAB +6"; but then I thought "ohhhh, he means if you've got BAB +4 from one class and BAB +1 from another, what is your total BAB!".
