I've been looking into starting up a recruitment thread to play a GURPS Mecha game, but the last time I touched this system was about seven years ago. Would it be worth converting GURPS Mecha from 3rd edition to 4th, or should I just pitch it as a 3rd edition game?

The editions are basically compatible, so you could do either. GURPS 4e seems to have a bigger following, but it's a marginal advantage.

I believe the biggest difference between the two is static defenses. So just go with what you feel most comfortable with. And what you have the books for, it is GURPS after all. ☺

4th edition smoothes out some things. Especially in combat with dropping passive defense and adding combat option that makes the game better.

I've played Gurps for 20 years and I find 4th edition superior. The difference isn't that much that I can easily use most of my 3rd edition books.
