Hello!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, been busy with college and stuff.

I'll be there and I'll do another game of D&D, higher level this time if I can find the players.

And yes, I will bring my Filing Cabinet of Many Things.

some of the items contained are so powerful that they need to be contained in 30ft of Lead....

it's a good thing that "the cabinet" is a extradimentional space

First time checking in a while, so I'm glad I spotted the handy newsflash.

I will definitely be coming, since I had so much fun last time.

I'm thinking about t-shirting my avatar for this as well. I've thought it would look nice on a black shirt for a bit now, so here's some motivation to do it.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again!

EDIT: I could really do with a lift from the station this time as well.

Last meetup I had many requests from people to be in my game of D&D if we ever meet again. These requests far outnumbered the sensible amount of people in a game and so I'm going to have run it on a first come, first serve basis. This is unfair on people who don't visit these forums regularly and so it would be best if everyone PMs me so I can be bribed and deny the order in which the messages came in :smallwink:

PM me now with requests to join my game of D&D at the meetup. Do it quickly.

I'd like to play the StarCraft boardgame if time/timing permits...

Any last-minute additions to the attendance list btw? I'll be heading to Brum soon to pay for the room. It'll run to no more than £10 each, including the buffet thang.

Yeah, should we possibly get a post somewhere cental to update the game possibilities? Otherwise we might get there and find ourselves drowning in choice as people pull out vast collections of games...

As for what I have...
D&D 3.5 (Though I'm pretty sure Dark Dork's got that covered :smallwink: - unless there's sufficient interest for two games...)
2nd Ed D&D
Call of Cthulhu
Twilight 2000
(New) World of Darkness - Core and Vampire: The Requiem
(Old) World of Darkness - Vampire: The Masquerade

Though I hasten to add, at most I'll likely only bring two of the above. So if anyone has any specific preference, let me know. (Though I'd quite like to run a Mortal World of Darkness game personally - but if people want something different, I'm happy to provide something different.)

Didn't Castaras include Lensman in her application?

nope, she said "OotS Boardgame = In!" there is no "we" in there

maybe she want's to get away from him for a while...
maybe that's reason enough to include him...
and maybe since they are bringing their copy Lensman will run a game himself...
unless of course he's running a SW game.
*shrug*
who knows,
all i know is i have 1 free space, with the priority given to people playing SC too.

besides, i think there'll be too many people wanting to play this for just 1 game to be run.

Your space platform awaits young padwan.

I have an expansion to Puerto rico as well which is pretty cool (this is no time for traditional British understatement) really bloody good, I shall also drag along Red Dragon Inn, which is a larf.

Can't be bothered to drag along settlers unless you lot bitch and moan for it, so if you wanna play comence bitching.

Ikkie is still struggling for net connection... shoulda got Sky (mutter mutter, M&S vouchers, grumble) I'll text him for a start date and post it, as he's playing footie tonight I think.. or rustling badgers, it's hard to say for sure.

Oh if anyone is thinking of getting Sky we could all get £25 of M&S vouchers (about 2.5 pairs of pants) so give me a shout... or a PM as that would prob work and all.

Gah! I'd best get down my requests before everything's filled up!

I would especially like to play:

OotS (But since it takes ages I don't mind giving it up to play more shorter games instead)
Munckins
Zombies!

...and I intend to retain the Nuclear War crown as well :smallamused:

BTW I likely won't be getting my avatar on a shirt for the meet. On a 6-1 chance from one of those Japanese style vending machines I got a keychain of my avatar. So I'll be touting that instead, otherwise creepy Yuna overkill.

Wild stab in the dark...anyone play Magic the Gathering at all? I've got back into it recently and I'd enjoy the odd game if anyone can...

I've close to none experience ('xcept a little munchkin and d&d) but might just be able to be with you, if you'll have me.

I'm not entirelly sure I'll be able to make it, but if someone nice would be so kind as to put together what consensus we have in terms of date, place a.s.o , I'll put it in the agenda and try not to be out of the country by then.

Ok, deposit paid on the room. I'll need to cofirm final numbers in a few weeks.

They're sending me buffet menus. The cheapest is £5.50 a head, I'll post what we'll get once I know plus some options.

They open at 12 and we can have the room all day until close. I've told them we don't need our own bar so it'll be like last time - pop upstairs for drinkies.

I guess I'm telling you all this so that you can pre-book travel and accomodation if you haven't already. You need to get to Birmingham New Street and from there get a local train to Barnt Green (costs less than £5) from where you can be picked up by a driver - likely me! That or drive to junction 4 of the M5 which is just a few minutes' drive from the venue. See my post on page 8 for addresses and hotels and stuff.

Questions, comments etc. welcome!

*Newsflash* *Newsflash*

I have spoken to the venue, and WE ARE ON. I repeat WE ARE ON.

Date: 8th of December.

Venue: The Oak tree (http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/28/28041/Oak_Tree/Rednal).

Accomodation: The Old Rose and Crown (http://www.oldroseandcrown.com/). Premier Travel Inn (http://www.premierinn.com/pti/home.do) (search for B45 postcode). Within a £10 taxi ride there are dozens - if you have trouble let me know (just don't expect a fast response - as you can no doubt tell from the wonderful Charity, my net access is somewhat limited).

So, now we can chat in earnest about games and such, and now I really need to know how many people are coming. This is now very important. Even if you have told us before, please do so again. Could someone please volunteer to organise this?

EDIT: until they do...

Here is the current status of my D&D game at the meet:

-Starting at 1st Level

-Ideally generate characters beforehand but if can't we can sort something out on the day

-Show what homebrew stuff you're using for approval ( Probably not important, we'll be starting at level 1)

-When creating characters, make sure you bring any splatbooks you've used or tell me and I can bring what I got. Make sure you are familiar with the rules associated with the character. ( Not really important, but I warn you, I have no idea how to do psionics )

-The players we have are:

-Glug
-Glug's Bro
-Charity
-The_Librarian

- I don't really mind about party balance, just play what you think is enjoyable

-@Glug :smallfrown: I'm not sure I'll be able to work "The Beast" into my campaign, not sure of the size of the table and I won't be able to simulate it until the day but you can still bring it if you want, of course

That is all for now.
P.S. @LR33 How are you getting to Birmingham and are you driving back on the evening cos two hours (plus) both ways means a long day. In addition, can I come with you?!

What do you want to be?
A warrior, an skill monkey, a wizard or a holywoman?
Oh if you wanna PM me to maintain your mystique it's fine, I have cleared some of the clutter out of my PM box. What I'll do is put your character up here (http://www.thetangledweb.net/addon.php?addon=Profiler&page=view_char&cid=5208) so you can print it off at home and if you need to make adjustments or get familiar with her it should be easier.

Oh DD do you allow flaws (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/buildingCharacters/characterFlaws.htm) I don't really need that extra feat, but if we have no cleric I might appreciate a bit of vital recovery and if Libris is anything other than a human she may be needing feats badly... checks to see if he has stats for an anthro wolf anywhere...

Anathema (in Greek Ανάθεμα) meaning originally something lifted up as an offering to the gods; later, with evolving meanings, it came to mean:

to be formally set apart,
banished, exiled, excommunicated or denounced, sometimes accursed.

Something tells me you aren't offering me to any Gods...

He would also like to know how much food to ask for... apparantly my call of 'All of it' wasn't very helpful ...
He recons if he asks for 150 quid it would then work out at a tenner each including the room cost and about 20 of us show up...

Is there a meet-up sign-up thread I can put my name on to be notified of every meet-up that we'll ever have in the UK? Sort of like the werewolf central that people put their names on to be notified when new games start?

Shall I start one?

By the looks of it, it seems that there's going to be one every 6 months or so. All you have to do is to check FB every month or so and there shouldn't be a problem

What Time will you get there?

Me is thinking about 11:26. Although that can be altered.

I'm getting there at roughly the same time, 11:15 I think...but I don't have the details to hand right now.

Edit: And only just realised now that it's still there...Put it in middle of November I think...

See you tomorrow guys.

I might see if I can create a fake avatar and user name for my little brother then he'll be asking if anyone recognises him and try to catch you out.:smalltongue: Probably not. I've not seen him in ages and it depends how bored we get this evening.

I'm still at work so I've got a long drive now. And I've got to load the car. I'm staying away from Leeds where I am now for the next week so I've got to remember to bring work shirts and all sorts, I'm in Birmingham on business Tuesday/Wednesday so it's worked out sort of conveniently for me again.

That was awesome - my thanks to DarkDork, my man at arms (Charity) and the hired help :smallwink: and to Kantur for looking after my character when I had to go.

Paladins are awesome. Why did no one tell me this before?

And why did nobody say that clerics can throw undead, skeletal chimeras down wells?

And why did nobody warn me that goblins are smart enough to push the paladin into the spike pit? (ow)

That was a brilliant game

Home again, home again jiggidy jigg.

Just a few thanks.

Cheers for the game DD, it was a blast, and to the players as it would never has been as much fun without you all.
Special thanks to Ikkie for the lift matey, and the tour of Brum, and for organising the whole affair... and for providing the comedy transport. nyuk nyuk.

We had a very strange occurance on the way home, I'm a bit spooked still, I shall give more detail later.

That was great fun guys.

The venue was brilliant.

We do however need more time... I suggest going for a two dayer in the summer.

Possibly with a trader on one of the days?

Possibly advertise it as running in tandom with a GitP "fringe" games do for not Gitpers?

don't know, I'd like to get as many people for as long as possible...

does anyone have any ideas for making the next one even more cool?

The venue was great by the way!

well just got back and i have to say i loved that gaming weekend! it was great to see everyone from the last meet up and to meet some new people.

i still cant believe that OOTS game went on for over 7 hours! and half of that was trying to find the stairs to Xykons secret lair. Still durken and elan managed to vanquish him in the end. Darn that adventure card where we all had to touch our noses!
playing V was fun but i have never been much of a magic user, im more used to being the meatshield. Speaking of which, poor Roy! Gettting backstabbed over and over again by Hailey. And not to mention Belkar doing hid fair share of that too:smallsmile:
shame i couldnt stay for longer, but it was a fantastic day and i cant wait for the next one next year.

Ikki - if you let me know how to repay you for the food i wil lbe happy to

Really it was a reunion more than an actual meetup, as most of us had already met before. At least that's how it felt to me.

I brought my camera but didn't feel the need to take pictures. In fact I don't think anybody did. I took pictures when I visited my 10 day old niece today.

What was the count? 15? There were 6 in DnD and oots took 6 too. There were 3 on the other table, what activities were going on there?

I don't think I'll ever use a travel-lodge again. Their over-selling rooms policy is laughable.

We select three were engaged in vast quantities of Munchkin, (straight, Star and Bites), as well as deep involvement in major agricultural policy (or Bohnanza, the game of growing beans, to you lesser mortals!). We would have played Zombies! - but no one had brought the rules. Something for the next meet-up!

I might bring the rules to zombies next time. If you're nice to me...

Charity: What actually happened on the way home?

Dark Dork
2007-12-10, 11:37 AM
I was told to bring zombies even though we hadn't found the rules in the off chance someone might have memorized them.
Great game of D&D we had, sorry to be so rushing towards the end, the extra player made combat take just a little longer than I anticipated.

*Rages at lack of Zombie rules*

I did have fun hanging out in a little trio playing smaller games, but I felt that this meetup might have been a bit too dominated by the two games? (D&D and OotS)

Last meet there was a lot of switching of games, and I felt that more people got to do more things than this time. It would have been nice to have played a few more games with people I didn't get a chance to, but there's always next time

Might give D&D a go too, that dungeon crawl (?) looked pretty cool...

I agree totally. We all knew that D&D would be like that, but OOTS was meant to take less than half the time. That's why I reckon that we should go for two days next time. Have all the long games on one day and all the shorter games on another.

I like the idea of doing a weekend meet instead of a single day event. It would improve the chances of people being able to make it (double the days, half the chances of existing commitments getting in the way), as you could show up for just the one day if you wanted to and still have a good time.

How about trying to set it around a Bank Holiday? Then people who stay over could stay the weekend and head out on the Monday...

People are more likely to have existing commitments on bank holidays methinks

The question is, which wall.

I really liked the venue we had this time, however I would be better able, and very eager to organise a lot more things if it was closer to here. I am living in York right now, but Leeds ain't a bad city for it, especially if we can find a better room.

1. Oww! Stop poking me!

2. I don't think. I've given up thinking because it was making my head hurt.

3. A two-day meet-up could be difficult for me - I have work and family commitments. I can't give up work because I have to pay for Castaras to go to Paris... And giving up the family ... hmmm, giving up Castaras... Perhaps this isn't such a bad idea... But one or other day is okay - at present, I've nothing booked for that weekend.

4. Venue. Definitely no further north than Leeds, preferably further south. Brum worked well - I'd be quite happy to go back to the Oak Tree. As regards London... well, let's just say that my experience (and I was brought up in London) is that there is nothing remotely resembling civilisation inside the M25 (and yes, speaking as a lawyer, I am expressly including the Royal Courts of Justice within that comment!)
