1 What is the least "glitchy" way of handling astral travel vs antimagic field?

2 What ways can one use against astral invaders other than trying to locate their real bodies and take them down there?

Well, there's always a silver sword. It's not just a sword made of silver, though. It's a sword that cuts the silver thread that connects the spirit to their body. Iirc, if your silver cord was cut, you died.

But the cord is only visible in the astral, isn't it? It's no longer visible if you hop to another plane and get a temporary body

Yes, the chord is only visible on the Astral Plane. It's still a badass sword elsewhere. Just not as dangerous to the PC's, in that they probably won't get auto-killed if they are a high enough level to be planes hopping.

That's my concern - unless the enemy can do something to locate the party's hideout and counter attack, they can use astral travel to cut his defenses bit by bit with impunity. Unless the villains uses some spells that literally rip souls out of their bodies.

Use Imprison?

That's one way...

Anything else?

Improved alarm from MoP is a cheap 3rd level prophylactic.

Forbiddance and snare astral traveler (bovd) are good 6th spell level options too.

mordenkainen disjunction is an automatic way to stop their progress.
it works fine if you have an adamentine horror.

I searched "snare astral traveller" and found an old GiTP forum thread dedicated entirely to the topic

Thanks.

Could always bring out the Astral Dreadnaught (https://www.schadenfreudestudios.com/dnd/nonogl/nonogl_cacodemon.htm)…

I forgot where I got that guy from.

This thing is like a sand worm of the Astral Plane. I don't even think it can be summoned anywhere else. - it's listed as gargantuan, but it goes for miles.

AMF should suppress Astral Projection without question. This leads to a split strategy where one person casts AMF and sits on the location of an Astral Projection body while the other person hunts down the originating body which is still in suspended animation and on the material plane regardless of the plane of origin (by RAW).
