Update (June 30): The Sorcerers of the West Ocean have worked their magicks to return the old Minmax content to life!

The new MinMax Forums (http://minmaxforum.com/) now have all the old content from the old boards. HOWEVER! We do not have any guarantees of the Brilliant Gameologists content. If you have anything from BG that never got ported to Minmax, we still need to save it. There's also no harm in having additional mirrors of any content, too.

Let's all chip in and mirror or archive as much as we can.

Directions
There's two ways to help here.

1. Post the URLs of pages that are worth saving.
Check your browser history, your bookmarks, your auto-complete data. Post the URL in this thread.

2. Backup pages.
Use your own URLs or those that others have shared to create archives of the content.

This could be via the Wayback Machine (https://archive.org/web/), Google Cache (http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:), or other search engines. Cached pages may not remain forever; please prioritise making wayback copies.

3. Mirror pages.
Copy and paste the thread. ***UPDATE****

The MMX forums should be back online shortly. This is a temporary reprieve. It's $14.99 a month to pay for hosting, and BlueHost is "kind" enough to allow outsiders to pay. HOWEVER: This does not solve the reasons that the forum was being transferred in the first place. The most critical of these are that the forum software is out of date and has known malware in the wild, and that because email verification is down, new users cannot sign up.

Prime32 and I can get a new forum up and running at MinMaxForum.com in short order (it's not there yet, don't go looking), but the data copy across would have to be entirely manual. We do not have access to the back end of MMX, nor will we unless the BGs grant it to us. Therefore, manual copying is the way forward, regardless of where it ends up.

Without access to the backend pulling the the displayed content is the best you can really do. HTTrack (http://www.httrack.com/page/2/) worked fine the last time I used it.

Slightly ignorant question: Should we be trying to save threads that have been cached by google? I was under the impression that cached pages may not remain so for an extended time, and, was trying to save those that I could find.

On that note, I lack the knowledge to preserve such cached pages in pdf form, but have saved a few in html format in my google drive. Here (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2QL3TMtmaSNc3ZlMGlTdU5ac1k). It currently contains a slew of different pages based on my ability to run into them.

If that's something that's going to be useful, otherwise I would greatly appreciate any other directions.

I have saved all the above cache links (in this post) (just normal browser-saved html glomps) to hard drive (except the Divine Magician Handbook, it's so incomplete I don't see why I even linked it). The saved cache pages still look like cache pages of course, but the data is there and you don't need to squint too much to use them as-is. I'd prefer to just email it to someone but with all the Touhou pictures that alone is 280MB, so I guess I'll whip up a spare google account to upload it. Tomorrow night though, staring at so much white space has aggravated my existing headache.

Edit: to be clear, that still leaves all the monster classes and super robot wars stuff for fans of that content to save.

A full dump would probably be in the thousands if it contains all userpages and threadpages, but since it's raw HTML you could always search the file content with something like grepWin if you're looking for specific text.

Next question is can someone with more technical savvy than mine own reassemble a SMF database from the HTML? Because if so, that will give us much of the forum back regardless of whether we ever get the data direct from the BGs.

Once it's all there, I might be able to do this. I've done some messy text-parsing-into-databases before, and I have a local copy of an SMF database already (and another copy of it on a VPS, where I could pretty easily throw up another SMF where I put the stuff I extract).

I have some older backups myself; back when BG went down the first time and moved to minmax, I made a backup of BG, and then at some point I made a backup of minmax; it's all from a firefox extension called ScrapBook though, so they're...not organized too well without being run that way. Specifically, the handbooks, not random forum threads, by the way. I think if anyone else installs ScrapBook and points it at this data directory, they'll get it the same as me though.

I imagine most of this stuff is stuff other people have already got, but I'm putting it in a zip and putting it up so others can download in case someone remembers something and can't find it anywhere else that's better indexed/set up; if someone is looking for something from 2013 or before that they can't find anywhere else, it might be in the stuff I saved. Some of it is from right here and is probably still available, other bits are from the Wizards forums before they went down...I only systematically saved BG and Minmax once, the rest is semi-random stuff that I wanted to be sure I didn't lose.

Oh dang. There was so much homebrew on minmax. Looks like a lot of it is being moved over already, but has anyone gone after the Akashic Records subsystem? Or the Magipunk campaign setting? Both of those had a lot of cool ideas... If I knew anything about web archives I'd go looking for them myself.

We do have a few folks with backups of the entire sites, yes. However, they're in straight HTML format, so they're not easily useable without some more processing. Having more mirrors is always a good thing, regardless of whether we have the full sites.

I'm working on getting it all up on Secrets of the Archmages as part of the forth-coming redesign..
My May blitz captured 397436 threads total on all those discussion forums, so it's going to take a little bit.

I have this coming monday off work, and hopefully get it all online then.

Also, someone associated with Min-Max has contacted me here, and I'll be giving them a copy as well. If need be, I can probably help them reformat it into something they can upload and restore into threads.

I've discovered a new trick: Oselcamo's Monster Index Index is no longer in google/bing cache or on the internet archive, but I saved a copy of the archive page as html. If I click links on that saved page, it sends me to an archive page for it, even if that site is no longer in the archive online.

Caches still works if you can capture it the right way in the google search engine. That is right why of keyword combination to trigger it as one of the main choices in search results rather than sub category.

Anything that was [cache]d by google was only available for a short time. You might try searching around on the new minmax forums (http://minmaxforum.com/), which was able to port a bunch of stuff over. If you come across the link, please share it so that I can update the index link?

Also pretty much everything's still around, I've got my browser set up to redirect from the old addresses to the new backups, so if there's something anybody else is missing, I can easily retrieve the new link by having the old one.

Just going to point out it's not a "bunch of stuff", it's the complete Brilliant Gameologists and MinMaxBoards forums. We have everything going back to the forum's founding.

Sorry If this is thread necromancy, but due to the nature of import of this thread, i would like to point out that the [drive] by the utility belt is actually supposed to go to the Ebberon Airship Guide.

Additionally, a couple Wayback links need removed as they no longer function, such as the Druid Wayback link.
