View Full Version : Pathfinder Flurry of Blows Polearm? Dynasty Warriors inspired.

I have an idea in my mind for a character but I'm not sure how to make it work mechanically. I imagine a character similar to Lu Bu or Zhao Yun, who wields a pole arm style weapon and strikes lightning fast. If this were 3.5 I'd just go Tome of Battle Diamond Mind and be done, but as it stands that's unavailable to me.

So I'm thinking Flurry of Blows? Is there any way for a 5th level character to get Flurry with a spear or halberd?

- Sohei (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/monk/archetypes/paizo-monk-archetypes/sohei/) archetype
- Crusader's Flurry (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/crusader-s-flurry/) + cleric dip/VMC/Adept Channel (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/adept-channel/) + god with the favored weapon of your choice
- Probably something else I'm forgetting

EDIT to fix CF link

Sohei activates at six, so probably not gonna do that. I suppose a cleric dip is required. Sigh.

...Or you could do Adept Channel + Crusader's Flurry as I suggested :smalltongue:

The question is, and this is gonna seem stupid, how to pull it off. How do I get a familiar as a divine caster that isn't a cleric?

- Familiar Bond (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/familiar-bond/)
- VMC
- various archetypes, domains, etc
- probably something else I'm forgetting (again)

Consider 1 level of (preferably unchained) monk with the Scaled Fist archetype (switches monk abilities from Wis to Cha) and then 4+ levels of paladin. You can qualify for crusader's flurry at 5th level with no loss of BAB if you went unchained monk. You also get lay on hands and smite evil.

Suitable paladin-friendly deities for this include Shelyn (NG, favored weapon glaive) and Tsukiyo (LG, favored weapon longspear).

Is there a Paladin archetype with Flurry of Blows?

No, but with Unchained Monk that won't actually matter until 11 or so. All they get is two bonus attacks, not an entirely separate flurry progression; the BAB will stack normally.

If you are allowed DSP material i would suggest a warlord with the Piercing Thunder discipline. Sprinkle some Primal Fury and Mithral Current on top. I actually had this idea a while ago during dead time at work

You can't take Adept Channel unless you're an adept, the NPC class. Just having a familiar doesn't qualify you. You need the "summon familiar class feature," and adept is the only thing that gets it.

According to posts about the new Adventurer's Armoury 2 there are ways to modify weapons to put them into different weapon groups, such as close and thus allowing Brawler's to flurry them. PDF releases on the 28th.

VMC Cleric on a Sohei Monk works then. Pick up Crusader's Flurry, maybe Ascetic Style if you want to Stunning Glaive people, and you're gold/magic/silver/iron/lawful/adamantine
