So.. I just watched the trailer for this game and I think I am totally going to buy this game for one reason only.

LIZARDMEN!!!!

OH YEAH!!! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rTzJIxBHKc)

Lizardmen was my army back in the day and seemed to be a pretty hated on or just disliked army for some reason or another, but I always thought they were awesome Big ol Kroxigor's bringing the hurt and undead mummy toads unleashing mega spells all in your face.

Now, I understand hat most peeps are in love with grimdark evil and not so much evil 40K stuff, But I hope that there are some original Warhammer fans out there.

I'm interested in the announced high elf mechanic, where they get stat penalties for losing men. I expect High Elf units to be fairly daunting to fight against at the beginning of the battle, but then shatter like glass when the first thing goes wrong.

I'm even more interested in seeing how the game will portray Dark Elves. I want to know what CA thinks are good mechanics for making me act like an utter bastard.

This mechanic is going to be very hard to balance, I expect. From the multiplayer games I've seen, most of the play comes well after all the units have sunk below 50% health, and having all your units be even less effective than they would otherwise at low health is a ferocious penalty. There's going to be a very fine balance point; if the units start out too powerful, they'll just smash foes right out of the gate, while if the units aren't powerful enough, their late-game performance will be too anemic to be competitive. And it's true that the Lizardmen get a similar mechanic with their "rampage," but at least their wounded units will still be good at attacking the units they've set their sights on (even if those aren't the units they want them to attack). Frankly, I'm wondering whether CA is intentionally setting the High Elves up for failure because of trendy elf-hate.

Edit: Has anyone heard anything at all about the other two factions? Most of the trailers and announcements have centered purely on the High Elves and Lizardmen.

Dark Elves have only a little information released. 4th faction is unknown, but rumours of man-sized rats are greatly over exaggerated.

No, they haven't. All talk of man-sized rats is ridiculous. Such a thing couldn't exist. Those were just Beastmen.

Don't know what you're talking about N810, that's just some dust that got on the cover. Or marsh gas. Or a weather balloon.

All these jokes bring up a question: In light of the fact that almost no one believes the fourth faction will be anything other than Skaven, why are the developers trying so hard to hide direct evidence of it?

In all seriousness - they're not trying hard to hide it, it's just a silly in-joke that they're playing along with.

It's an in-joke. In-universe the Empire vehemently denies the existence of Skaven, which lead to warhammer fans making jokes about ratmen conspiracies and the devs joined in the fun.

And for some reason, they didn't really show anything about vampires last time either.
