Little background, every year, my friends and I get together to hang out, swim, be nerdy, etc. This year, some of us have decided to get together the night before and play a standalone game with some of our legendary(AKA well known characters). My girlfriend is playing with us, but she is new to DND and doesn't really have a legendary hero yet. She mentioned playing a character based on Maui from Moana.

Ideally, Maui should be able to stand-up in power to several refined and fine tuned characters. I was thinking some variation of Barbarian/Fist of the forest. Perhaps a refluffed Bear Warrior?

Has anyone built a similar character? Is there a racial template that represents a demigod?

Thanks!

Wild Shape Ranger for the shapeshifting and full BAB. Maybe add in some Master of Many Forms to get additional size options and the ability to speak. If possible, a refluffed Lolth Touched template could give you the strength and constitution befitting Maui as well as a divine connection. That just about covers it, I think.

I think a level 5 shifter (http://spheresofpower.wikidot.com/shifter) might work very well in re-creating Maui. Obviously, he would focus in the Alteration sphere, and as such would probably choose the following sphere/talents:

Alteration Sphere (http://spheresofpower.wikidot.com/alteration#toc0): Animalistic Transformation (http://spheresofpower.wikidot.com/alteration#toc9), Aquan Transformation (http://spheresofpower.wikidot.com/alteration#toc11), Avian Transformation (http://spheresofpower.wikidot.com/alteration#toc13), Powerful Limbs (http://spheresofpower.wikidot.com/alteration#toc37), Size Change (http://spheresofpower.wikidot.com/alteration#toc43), and Vermin Transformation (http://spheresofpower.wikidot.com/alteration#toc49). [Alteration sphere (free w/ Shifter) +2 (free w/ 1st level in Casting class) +3 (w/ level 5 mid-caster) +1 (Lycanthropic alteration sphere drawback)]. If you dont want Maui to have hybrid transformations such as shark-head Maui, he can be given the Beast Soul alteration sphere drawback for an additional talent.

His bestial traits from the shifter would probably include Elemental Kin (to gain fire resistance).

you know maybe with little bit more talents can be drawn bydrawbacks since he can not shapeshift with out his hook it means focused casting and maybe some sort of material casting can be used and he casts with emotions to so 3 drawbacks to start before the game and maybe put some sort of tattoed casting to make it 4 drawbacks and if we get one more flaw we double the talent count ( heck maybe we already doubled)

No, drawbacks (that aren't sphere drawbacks) increase spell point count, not talents.

I'd go for Half Giant with a Large (sanctified) weapon to act as his Divine Focus
