Ooooh! You're all foxy now! I love the non-green Syka-fox ^^
Yay! ^^

Edit: Moon, just tell me you aren't eating the brains of those you take the appearance of. You know, like that D&D guys I can't remember right now (I told you I'm the worst geek ever :p)

For the express purpose of one person to use though. I mean, technically, anyone could go through and use anyone else's avvie, as long as they know how to get the code. That doesn't mean I'd do it.

You also didn't have permission to do it, either of the avvie owner or of the avvie artists. You really should stop.

If you right click an images and pick "Properties" you can see the dimensions. The height limit of an exposed image is 120px. The "Four avatars side be side" thing is the 468px width limit.

PirateMonk

The Giant joined August 6, 2003. If we assume the site started that day, which is reasonable, that means there have been 1475 days in which people could have joined. There are currently 21,033 members. This means that an average of 14.259661016949152542372881355932... people joined each day. Of course, it's mostly centralized in '06 and '07, so it becomes even likelier that two people in those years would have exactly the same join date. So it isn't strange, but it is somewhat more unusual that two highly active posters have identical join dates.

Dr._Weird
2007-08-19, 10:17 AM
Also, lurkers, alt accounts (There was a lot of that going on before the forum switch) and people who don't post anymore (I miss Sneak) and people who don't post very often (That would be me).

Anyone know the number of active posters?

Oh, and speaking of join dates, I feel old.

Forum-old that is. I think you're all older than me in RL.

Eldpollard
2007-08-19, 10:20 AM
I don't think there is a statistic fior that, but I would imagine a lot less.

Lord Herman
2007-08-19, 10:22 AM
When the members list was still up, I did a search for members with more than fifty posts, who had posted in the last week. It came up with 1500 people, if I remember correctly.

FdL
2007-08-19, 12:34 PM
You actually did that with "ye olde wait-300-million-seconds-between-searches" engine?
You know your kung-fu.

Lord Herman

I made that search quite a while ago, before any of the bandwith saving restrictions were in place.

Captain van der Decken
2007-08-19, 01:16 PM
So we probably have a fair few more active members now.

Sorry but stuff that can go in other threads does. Check the thread rules. If you want to talk about the advantage of sheep juggling over cow juggling go right ahead.

Leather_Book_Wizard
2007-08-19, 01:42 PM
Seems to me that sheep would be much easier to juggle than cows as sheep are of a more compact and spherical shape. Cows would make for very awkward juggling.

Logic
2007-08-19, 02:59 PM
Cow juggling? Bah! Just get yourself a cow-launcher instead. I've got no time to juggle cows.

Sheep juggling. That I might try.

Captain van der Decken
2007-08-19, 03:01 PM
If you want to be juggling farm animals, then chickens are probably your best bet. Or perhaps eggs.

Leather_Book_Wizard
2007-08-19, 03:02 PM
I don't like sheep.

Mr. Moon
2007-08-19, 03:02 PM

Edit: Bah, simu'd.

Khaldan
2007-08-19, 04:18 PM

Ah the two sentence rule, the one that causes more conflict than any other, I remember the thread being locked for a while due to a huge disagreement about it. I hope that doesn't happen again, I need RB.

Captain van der Decken
2007-08-19, 04:25 PM
I still think it's a bad idea. Plenty of valid conversation can use just one sentence, and it can just encourage people to tack on a pointless second sentence.

Arameus

I'm Lawful Good all the way. And I don't think there's anything groanworthy or regrettable about that.

Vonriel
2007-08-19, 04:32 PM
Decken, it seems to me that the two sentence rule was implemented with the idea that people were leaving posts to the effect of "That's weird." You know, sentences that really don't contribute much to the conversation.

Eldpollard
2007-08-19, 04:34 PM
And then make it hard to reply to. Or the posts that were basically one word answers like LOL. and that would be it.

Khaldan
2007-08-19, 04:36 PM
I think that they may have put that rule in to reinforce the No spam rule, since you could just post 2 word sentences, and have a legitimate but really bad defense. At least, that's my view of why it's there.

Captain van der Decken
2007-08-19, 04:46 PM
But all you really need is a rule like "contribute to the conversation".

I just got back from my grandpa's 80th birthday party, which took place ~350 miles down the Mississippi River from here. Apparently SE Minnesota and SW Wisconsin just got pounded by rain - some areas got 12" in 24 hours. The rain kept up nearly the entire time I was driving, making progress a little slower than normal. Plus, I had to take a 50 mile detour around a mudslide. Not so much fun.

As for what happened, I just think I messed everything up over there and then life became a total disaster, not just for me but also for lots of people I care about. I got involved with a girl, I knew it wasn't right (I posted about this at the old Depression Thread...), then she met my friends, she became my best friend's girl, I hurt them both, they hurt me... Now they're breaking up and my best friend feels like crap, and I know all of those wouldn't have happened if I hadn't become so close to her... She's the devil in disguise, I tell you all...

Can somebody tell me why all my cats love vegetable sauces that much? My old cat, Sunny, loves to eat mom's tomato sauce (an a tad modified original Italian sauce), he prefers it over meat, now Noelle (one of the two kitties, she's his niece) found the rest of my food and started to eat it. My old cat, Sunny, loves to eat mom's tomato sauce (an a tad modified original Italian sauce), he prefers it over meat, now Noelle (one of the two kitties, she's his niece) found the rest of my food and started to eat it. Now I'm totally confused.

No clue, but my old cat had similar issues. She loved potatoes, and could eat several at a time. Even more she loved cucumbers. She once ate 1/4 of one; through the plastic even.

Cats loving tomato products isn't that weird. Cats eating other vegetables, that's a bit stranger. Cats who ignore the yogurt and milk in a cereal bowl in order to eat the strawberries, I've never been able to explain, not even after subtracting the allure of the "I want what YOU'RE having!" flavor.

:smallannoyed: I just got back from failing my written driver's test for my license. I probably SHOULD have read the book...I studied it before I tested for my permit, but that was a year ago.

It irks me tremendously...I failed on questions like... "What's the leading cause of motercycle-car accidents?" which then presented four plausable scenarios. I guessed the wrong one, of course, because I'm a terrible guesser...anyway, I just read the manual and I'm going back to test again tomorrow. Then my practical is Wednesday.

Well, you can always retake. Or do really well on your Practical. Besides, someone (maybe Eggy) said that you aren't a true motorist unless you've failed your driving exam at least once.
And, knowing you I think you didn't do as bad as you think you did. Let us know how it went.

What's the answer to that one? Not wearing helmets?

Here the theoretical part of the test had more realistic questions. About things you have to remember from the pertinent laws, etc. Anyways, good luck next time.

I'm going to have to renew my license at some point...I think I loaned the booklet I studied that time :s You know, I don't make that kind of mistake often. Now i have to go to the person I loaned it to like 4 years ago and ask her if she has it (which of course she won't). Meh. People :smallmad:

Driver's test. Now there are two words that scare me.

I am a great driver who has also experienced failing the *&^% tests. Our system is just stupid as logical answers were not the correct ones. Even though I did study. And I swear that car came out of nowhere. :smalleek: :smallannoyed:

Yeah, I just don't test well. I psych myself out. :smallannoyed: I failed the permit test the first time too, and got 95% the second time, so hopefully I can pull that off again. The permit test had twice as many questions, though, so there was more breathing room.

phoenixineohp
2007-08-20, 02:50 PM
I was so nervous for the road test that I could barely sign my name to the sheet, I was shaking so bad. I was way too stressed out to drive it. >.<

SweetLikeLemons
2007-08-20, 03:17 PM
Do they give you the written test on paper or on a computer? I remember when I took my permit test, it was like it was designed to psych me out. Every time I got one wrong, it would tell me by putting up a red screen with "INCORRECT" on it in big letters. Then it would inform me how many more I could afford to get wrong before I failed. Evil. I barely scraped through.

Anyway, now that you've taken the test once and then reread the book while knowing what sort of fiddly little facts they will ask about, you should do fine. Go get another 95%!

Oh, and a bit of advice for your road test: glance through the manual for the car you'll be taking it in. Make sure you know all the switches etc, and where they are. I got in trouble on mine for not knowing how to turn my headlights off (they turned off when the engine was off on my mom's car, so we just left them on all the time).

Dragonrider
2007-08-20, 03:21 PM
Yeah, it was on the computer it did that to me too - the red INCORRECT. When I got the first question wrong and my heart rate doubled, I was like, "Oh crap." Because I knew that I would psych out, and sure enough, by the last couple questions I couldn't focus enough to absorb the question.

I'm testing in my mom's minivan (hehe) so that shouldn't be an issue. I know it pretty well. Heck, I can parallel park it without a problem. It's just a PAIN to have to do the written again....

Vonriel
2007-08-20, 03:28 PM
See, that's just plain evil. I preferred the computer I took my test on. You had 10 signs you had to know, any of them wrong and the test just stopped. Then you could only miss up to 5 of 25 questions, and if you got too many wrong the test again just stopped. None of this "You're wrong! Bwahahahaha.." stuff.

phoenixineohp
2007-08-20, 03:30 PM
I had the huge red 'YOU'RE WRONG!" too. I liked that it at least had pictures, but the paper test was much calmer.

I put off my driven test because of the parking part. The car is an '88 crown vic. A huge square. So parking that beast is not a fun thing to do. :smallannoyed: However the parking went fine. I messed up on a one way street when the instructor told me to make a sudden turn left... while I was two lanes away. So I ended up cutting off a guy to try and make it. And then that other car came out of no where when I was entering the highway. :smalleek: So very annoying when I know that I am a good driver and just too nervous. But it all worked out and I am almost done the whole system.

Gifts include:
Wolf beach towel - this thing was positively gorgeous. When I noticed the spirit guide thread, I pretty quickly went to wolf...danced around a few other things, but wolf seems to fit the bill. Anyway, I'm rambling

A nice shirt - Not just "oh, okay" nice - but NICE. Soft material, collared so I can wear it to work, and just the right balance between warm and lightweight for the coming fall.

Smetena CD - Good music, but I hadn't the heart to tell my grandfather he gave me the exact same CD for christmas :smallamused:

Vivaldi CD - Also good music, and one I didn't have.

An all-in-one inkjet printer - Finally, a decent replacement for ye olde Apollo that got me through university. The first printing project, aside from testing the scanner and printing a test page, was 63 pages of roleplaying material I've been meaning to digest. Pirates. (disgusted) Often, often, often. (Turning away)

General. I don’t think we quite understand one another. I ask you, have you ever known what it is to be an orphan, and you say “orphan”. As I understand you, you are merely repeating the word “orphan” to show that you understand me.

King. I didn’t repeat the word often.

General. Pardon me, you did indeed.

King. I only repeated it once.

General. True, but you repeated it.

King. But not often.

General. Stop! I think I see where we are getting confused. When you said “orphan”, did you mean “orphan” – a person who has lost his parents, or “often”, frequently?

King. Ah! I beg pardon – I see what you mean – frequently.

General. Ah! you said "often", frequently.

King. No, only once.

General. (irritated) Exactly – you said “often”, frequently, only once.

Funny. Extremely; I got the gist when I saw the word King and Orphan/often.
Must see this film soon.

And that makes sense Nomron. Religion is for religious people and they can do what they want.

Hey, about seeing who is more of a jerk, maybe it's better not being one at all, don't you think? :p

According to my motorcycle licensing test, the answer is cars making left turns in front of motorcycles going straight through an intersection.

Thanks for answering, Zeb! I'm going to remember this, though I think the situation is pretty self-descriptive.

I also have a few forum inappropriate stories about my friend getting a couple of girls expelled from BYU. >_> It involved a punk show in Provo. :smallcool: *Writes a book titled: SDF's Misadventures in Utah*You are quite welcome to come down again. So my friend just visited and told us about how she was talking with her mother about her {impossibly huge, impressive, and intimidating} dice collection, and her mother said when my friend has little children she'll really need to keep the dice packed away to avoid anyone eating something they shouldn't.

My friend replied: "Oh don't worry, I'll keep my dice safe."

To which her mother said: "Your children! I meant your children!!"

Glad she's got her priorities straight! :-D

Yeah, well she also has a highly magnetic set that came with a warning about poisoning if eaten, so 'passing through' is not the only concern :-p >_<

In other dice news, she brought my a nice collection from GenCon! :-D My Dice Army keeps growins!!! bwahahahahahahahaha!

All right guys, this is it: I'm about to go to sleep knowing that at 9:30 tomorrow morning - in approximately 11 1/2 hours - I will be taking my driving test. The driving part. IF I can pass that, I will then attempt the written test; and heaven help me, I'd better not fail that. The culmination of a year of Dragonrider's car-ma drama coming to a head.

*crosses fingers*

....I'd better get a good night's sleep....

And get up early tomorrow to read the booklet one last time before I go in for the test. :smalleek:

Good luck, DR.

It's no big deal. Just make sure to look everywhere, all the time, because that's where they 'getcha.' Anytime you move in a different direction, check all your mirrors and look to both sides, and behind if backing.

Aside from the whole superexceeding the speed limit, I would have to say I've seen some people drive better within racing games than they do with real cars.

Yes, but there are those who are the total opposite, and can drive but in racing games they hit just about every obstacle they see. Or don't see.

Wow. That's exactly what I'm like... I'm horrible at games like Grand Theft Auto and such, no matter how good I am at beating people to a bloody pulp in the streets (in the game, obiously, not in real life, though I have yet to try it there and might thus be equally good at it...), I just keep botching up the river missions... But in real life, I'm only a month away from my driver's license, and my driving is splendid, even if I do say so myself. I only hit two pedestrians last week! (Not counting that dog...). :smalltongue:

Yep, I'm a pretty good driver in real life. But if you put me in a simulator, pray that you don't end up as one of the pedestrians!

I passed my driving test hung-over! But seriously, good luck for your test, but remember, you're not a failiure if you don't pass first time. It took me an embarrasingly large amount of tests to pass mine, but I like to think I'm a pretty good driver now, so even if it doesn't go to plan keep working at it!

Wow...I'm so happy right now. The driving part was no problem...there was one place where I let someone else go even though I had the right of way, but basically other than that I didn't have a problem....

Congrats Dragon rider. Getting a drivers license is a big step in life :) I still remember how nervous I was when I got mine.

On to another subject. I found a funny (but quite empty and maybe not 100% serious) blog today. It seems to have been up only a couple of days or so but the subject apeals to me. It discusses what a geek is and what is geeky I think. :)

Weird blog. He's right though. Geeks and Nerds know a lot about those types of films and I'd rather be a geek/nerd than anything else really. I revel in my geekery. And my books, and my music, and some more books and some films.
Although unlike your stereotypical geek I don;t really like Sci-Fi stuff.

Swedish chef
2007-08-22, 02:34 PM
Yeah I know what you mean. But I guess that whoever is writing he/she looks to stereotypes. I consider myself a geek but I'm no megafan of sci-fi either. However I get suckerpunched by the moviepost since Tron is my absolute favourite movie ever all cathegories *continue rambling for about an hour about the greatness of Tron*. But I take a great detective story any day before sci-fi.

Never heard of Tron. I prefer horrors and some other stuff. And I love Discworld (top ten geekery) and so much geeky. Except math, and sci-fi. I can't stand sci-fi books, I'm a fantasy nut, and mysteries, and historical stuff, and funny stuff too.

How it that even possible? It's like not having heard of {insert generic 80s fantasy/Brat Pack/action movie of your choice here}. You really should see that film sometime CurlyKit' (for the light cycle race (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3ODe9mqoDE) and the sheer neony retro charm of it if nothing else).

edit: brokeded link fixeded. "Malformed URL" - what an evocative phrase. :smallwink:

Hold on. Is Tron that thing where they go inside a computer or something and it's all neon bars of lighting and dressed in white coverally things. With this virus/theft and some guy in a really big chair?:smallconfused: I think I've seen it. Light cycle race certainly sounds familiar. BTW, the link is a 'malformed URL' apparently.

Hey, what do you call a "panera" bread? :p It sounds funny to me, you know, because in spanish "panera" is a word that can be used for a bread container or a recipient in which bread is made (or even oven or any little bread-making appliance). I guess you already know it but "pan" is bread in spanish.

God, I love this record I'm listening to (Built To Spill's "Perfect From Now On").
