View Full Version : Pathfinder Ideas for a storm-themed druid

I'm building a strix druid that I'd like to give a general storm theme to—the idea of flitting through the air throwing havoc around the battlefield while surrounded by winds, clouds, and/or rain for defense is more or less the core of the concept. I'm considering the Storm Druid (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/druid/archetypes/paizo-druid-archetypes/storm-druid/) archetype, though if there's another way to fly easily through hurricane-force winds by a comparable level (13th for the Storm Druid), I might even consider a Nature Fang (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/druid/archetypes/paizo-druid-archetypes/nature-fang)—losing wild shape hurts, but using the Ranger Combat Style slayer talents to rain arrows down across the battlefield from within a barrier of wind (using a cyclonic bow), instead of relying entirely on blast spells on those occasions I want to do damage, is sort of appealing.

I'd mostly be interested in casting—primarily BFC using those weather-themed spells, with maybe a little save-or-suck blasting on the side, so tips on how to avoid inconveniencing the rest of the party would also be helpful. I also wouldn't turn down any ideas on buffing and/or useful thematic summons.

And if I don't go with nature fang, should I even bother trying to do anything in combat but cast spells? I'm more or less considering a low str, high dex, high wis build, so something like IUS and either a guided amulet of mighty fists or Weapon Finesse/Deadly Agility would help me keep a decent attack/damage bonus in or out of Wild Shape—and would work pretty nicely in conjunction with something like a rime frostbite—, but I'm just not sure if my damage potential is going to be significant enough to bother sacrificing the gp and feats.

Also, is Flyby Attack worth the feat? I was thinking it might be useful for throwing down spells while flitting in and out of cover/concealment.

If 3rd Party is available, you could always just use Spheres of Power and focus primarily in the Weather (http://spheresofpower.wikidot.com/weather) sphere. It even looks like the Storm Druid archetype is compatible with the Sphere Druid (http://spheresofpower.wikidot.com/sphere-druid) archetype. Looks like a Win-Win-Win situation.

Some 3PP is, though not Spheres material.
