I know, I am probably getting repetitive, but building a wizard is a really hard task.

Wizard (diviner) lvl 8 (with 9 extra spell picks).

Note: * = can be any wizard spell of up to a 4th level spell.

In case it helps:

Fighter 8 (melee)
Paladin (conquest) 8
barb4/druid4
gunslinger 8
ranger5/ fighter (arcane archer) 3
light cleric 8 (cant always make it)


ps: Dont worry about find familiar (it's taken care of - part of character's fluff/theme/story, you get the idea).

1 .Find Familiar is a must have for everyone who can get it. Then I'd probably take Magic Missile for guaranteed damage.
2. Would replace Web with Locate Object for flavor and utility, and Rope Trick with Leomund's Tiny Hut
3. Would replace Lightning bolt, Slow and Water Breathing with Animate Dead, Magic Circle and Haste.
4. Would replace Banishment with Mordekainen's Private Sanctum which I consider indispensable for wherever you're setting up shop.
5. Would take Planar Binding and Conjure Elemental

Note: Magic Circle, Animate Dead, and Planar Binding as well as Conjure Elemental are more Summoner types if you're going for flavor instead of power, probably replaced with Glyph of Warding, Sending, Contact Other Plane, and Scrying, not necessarily all, if you're interested in more of a Diviner flavor.
