Did anyone notice this little Spoiler/hidden plot point?

In panel 2.9 (9th panel in Second group), the thing in the shadows replies to readcloak ="Wait--What gate?"
Is this a clue to shaddow guy's identity?
He recognises something about one of those names - either the name of the original adventurer, or the gate.

Now, IIRC, one of them secured his gate behind many powerfull monsters. Could he be one of them?

That joke's been around for a while now. The idea is that the Thing in the Shadow's does not recognize any of the gates.
