so i have a player who is looking to play as a fey creature(dryad, homebrew ruled to having her tree being a potted sapling she carries around with her everywhere, she just has to avoid it getting destroyed).

thus her character type is fey.

the fey descriptor says fey get D6 hit dice, does this hit dice chance extend to classes she takes after LA?
(example the wizards d4 would turn to d6)

or does she take the class's HD as normal after LA?

new to monstrous pc's. we all wanted to try something fresh so we enabled monstrous pcs this time around.

If you add class levels, you use the HD size for the class. It doesn't matter what other existing racial HD the character had (if any), just as it doesn't matter what other classes they had. The character does, of course, retain whatever HP they gained from their previous HD.

There are 3 types of "effective character levels" you must be aware of:
1. LA (level adjustment) - these are levels without hit dice, empty levels to compensate for the strength of the race/creature
2. RHD (racial hit die) - these are levels derived from the type - fey in this case. Basically a "type class" - like a fey class or an outsider class or undead class.
3. Class HD - these are levels derived from classes

To answer your question - unless the race has racial hit die, then no, she will not have any fey D6 hit dice in her build.
