22.38 GMT, 22/07/17; Clarified wording on Twin Minds and Seeking Blade.

Improved Familiar; (Requires Pact of the Chain) The Familiar's Challenge Rating is now equal to that of the highest level of Pact Magic you have, unless it is normally higher.

Greater Familiar; (Requires Pact of the Chain) The Familiar's Challenge Rating is now equal to that of the highest level of Mystic Arcanum you have, unless it is normally higher.

Soul-bound Familiar; (Requires Pact of the Chain) Whenever you cast a spell that targets only yourself, and your familiar is within 30ft, you can also target your familiar.

Twin Minds; (Requires Pact of the Chain, 15th level) As an action, you can let your familiar maintain concentration on any spell you have cast. If you end your turn more than 30ft from your Familiar, the Familiar loses concentration. While concentration is maintained by your Familiar, you can take an action to regain that concentration.

Grand Binding; (Requires Pact of the Chain, 15th level) Whenever you gain an Ability Score Improvement, your Familiar gains one also. This applies retroactively. Alternatively, you may select a Feat, rather than an Ability Score Increase.

Vicious Familiar; Requires Pact of the Chain, 12th level) When you order your familiar to attack, if it has the Multiattack Action available, it may make use of that instead of making a single attack.

- - -

Forgotten Knowledge; (Requires Pact of the Tome, 12th level) Whenever you learn a new Pact Magic Spell, you may instead learn a spell from a different class of a level that you are able to cast.

Sellsoul; Requires Pact of the Tome When you gain a Warlock level which improves your maximum Slot Level, you gain knowledge of the spells for which you have spell slots from the Expanded Spell List granted by your Patron, in addition to any other Spells Known. If you already know Spells from your Expanded Spell List when you take this Invocation, you may replace it with another spell from the Warlock spell list which must be of a level for which you have spell slots. These additional slots are lost after a short or long rest.

Spellbank; (Requires Pact of the Tome, 5th level) Whenever you cast a spell using a Warlock spell slot that does not have "at Higher Levels" written in its description, you can store any left over power. Immediately after casting the spell, you may take a Bonus Action to regain a Warlock Spell Slot equal in level to the difference between the Slot Level used, and the level of the spell. If not immediately, the power is lost.

Infinite Pages; (Requires Pact of the Tome, 18th level); You gain the Sorcery Points Class feature (treating your Warlock level as Sorcerer level) when you take this invocation, but you do not recover spent Sorcery Points when you take a long rest. Instead, when you take a Short or Long rest, you may choose not to recover any spend Pact Magic Spell Slots, and instead gain the Flexible Casting class feature from the Sorcerer.

Magical Manipulation; Requires Pact of the Tome, 18th level); You gain knowledge of a single Metamagic option from the Sorcerer. In addition, you can cast this metamagic without needing Sorcery Points. once per short or long rest.

- - -

Seeking Blade; (Requires Pact of the Blade, 12th level) Your Pact Weapon may now be summoned with a Bonus Action, and gains the Thrown (range 20/60) property. If you make a Thrown Attack with it, it disappears after it either hits or misses, rather than after being further than 5ft from you. If your Pact Weapon already has the Thrown property, both the normal and maximum ranges double in size.

Reflexive Calling; (Requires Pact of the Blade, 15th level) Whenever you roll initiative and do not have your Pact Weapon in hand, it is instantly summoned into your hand if you have a hand free, or at your feat. The next attack with your Pact Weapon that you make after summoning it gains Advantage. If you already have Advantage with this attack, and the creature hit by the attack has yet to take a turn in combat, then it is an automatic Critical Hit.

The chain pact invocations are REALLY powerful. Improved Familiar is essentially an always on, no concentration, no spell slot Conjure Elemental (You have a CR 5 companion which follows your orders and has no action restrictions). I'm really unsure about how balanced that is.

How do you interpret that? The Creature is still limited by being Imp/Pseudodragon/Quasit/Sprite. It doesn't change what creature follows you, or what you can choose from - Find Familiar and Pact of the Chain are finite, and even before this Invocation, the rules allowed for a 3rd level Warlock to have a CR18 Demilich as your familiar. Literally ALL it does it change its Challenge value, which is basically the limitation that Polymorph/Shapechange has in place.

It's just now able to get better Polymorph shapes, which are limited to Beasts; which is a Brontosaurus, Giant Shark, Giant Croc, or Triceratops at best. It just makes them more useful in general. It's Polymorph as well, but otherwise that requires another Warlock Invocation and only 1/day, or another member in the party to cast Polymorph. Imp and Quasit Polymorph isn't the same as normal Polymorph, either, which has specific forms, and states specific changes.

If you want it to maintain Concentration for you, then that comes on at 15th level, which then is alternative with Chains of Carceri or Grand Binding.

Can a warlock familiar choose magic initiate (wizard) as a feat and then choose Find Familiar as a first level spell? Because that seems kind of awesome.

Yes! Partly because I gave one of my party an Ioun Stone which after a short rest could grant the user a feat of their choice during a short rest. The Warlock won it, and kept it as a trinket, occasionally picking it up and using it for fun and profit, until they just grew tired of it, and gave it their Familiar. The Familiar went from providing free Goodberries to the party, to suddenly having a random Octopus follow the party.
