While anti-climatic, it would be so wonderful to see the two sides start talking. Unlikely with all the blood on each side, but without Xykon in the picture, you do have some level of rationality on both sides.
You lose the obvious conflict between "good" and "evil" in that event, but what type of potentially compelling story lines would that still permit?
