Yes, we have been able to restore all of the MinMaxBoards (http://minmaxforum.com). This is almost entirely due to the efforts of two people: BG Josh was able to overcome the technical difficulties the BGs were having with their host, which gave Prime32 access to the complete dataset of MMX. Prime has spent the last several days restoring, upgrading, and cleaning the data, so that not only will all of the content be available, but also the new features such as sticky posts in threads, functional email notifications, and more.

I would like to extend my thanks (no doubt there will be a touch more of that from the MMX community) to both Josh and Prime for ensuring the continued existence of our history, and all the irreplaceable content created here. Prime, especially, has been working hard to ensure that we can restore the community to its normal status, and will be earning a 1,000% bonus on top of his salary of $0 for his exertions.

Welcome back everyone! Come, make yourselves at home once more in the cozy confines of the MinMaxBoards (http://minmaxforum.com).

It's very much Prime who earned it, but we're back and already welcoming new folks, if you've not got an account over there.

Nice! It might be a good idea for someone to use HTTrack (http://www.httrack.com/) and make a mirror of the website, just in case.

Already said so in the other thread, but this is brilliant news! Well done to all involved.

that movie is awesome, I almost saw it tonight

Yes, I've been thinking about that since the MInax/BG issues.

I'll definitely be making local copies of my most referenced threads here.

I have a question about making backups, how do I make backups of stuff?

If the tier list isn't there, it needs to be. It was nice to discuss there, but not something to discuss here.

It is there: http://minmaxforum.com/index.php?topic=658.0

I have a question about making backups, how do I make backups of stuff?

I'm probably not the best to answer that. I'd pretty much just be saving web pages or copy/pasting text.

I'm sure they are more efficient ways to do it.

Huzzah! Great job, everyone!

Well done sirs!

It's amazing how these forum databases can contain the record of a community down to the thousands of individual discussions that form the groundwork instead of just the thesis of whoever "writes the book," and while WotC spit on that human record I hope we can keep the rest rebounding in perpetuity. I think someone already suggested that there ought to be some field of research that could make a point of archiving these things.

There's a problem.
Threads are not correctly indexed.

If for example I search on google "Metamagic and You: A Thesis – RelentlessImp - Min Max Forum", it gives me the link http://minmaxforum.com/index.php?topic=133.0, that brings me to the page "Good Reads".
The same applies for "[3.5e] The Logic Ninja's Guide to Wizards: Being Batman", which gives me the link http://minmaxforum.com/index.php?topic=239.0 and brings me to the page "A PSA from Weenog to vegans".

I think this applies to every link...

This is because those thread numbers are from the temporary storm shelter forums and do not pertain to the main MMX database. Google will update itself in short order, no doubt.

Well that was confusing briefly.

I made a new account last week. Didn't work today. Then I realized we were back on the old user database, had to change passwords. Good thing I hadn't deleted the old minmaxboards entry out of LastPass yet.

Glad to hear this! I have to admit that the acronym being used has confused me on multiple occasions though as MMX in my brain always defaults to MegaManX.

Can confirm. Old username works. All is right with the world again.

Hope you guys have setup daily backups. Especially of the database.

P.S. What about the old BG data?

We have the BG data. It was simply less critical for us to restore than MMX. It should reappear at some point in the near future.

How long have the boards been down? Hasn't it been years?

Brilliant Gameologists as a forum was locked years ago due to persistent spam attack. It was replaced by MinMaxBoards.com, which was an identical community, but the BG boards never went away. They will reappear shortly in archive (unpostable) form as a subdomain on the current website.
