blackout
2007-08-06, 09:18 AM
The western half of town lies in ruins, after the war. BR vehicles are cleaning up leftover bits and pieces from wrecked vehicles on both sides, as well as cleaning up the rubble from buildings. The Noddies have apparently cleared the area, with no sign of a base. Things appear to be very peaceful for once.

There are plenty of dead bodies. Mostly BR and IG soldiers, and the occasional alien. Most civilians were hit by Disintegrators.

Nukular activates the microphones, and soldiers line up in front of the stage.

Today, we have fought against another great threat to the Town, and TRIUMPHED! The stage shows the wreckage of a Scrin Tripod behind Nukular, on a large screen. As of today, the Scrin invasion has been put to an end, and a new era has begun! We are strong! We are invincible! We are the future of the Town's survival! We will continue to uphold the ideals that we have shown in the Scrin war! For the Town!

Soldiers: *chant something quietly, it's kind of hard to tell what their saying*

Mortessa's lucky she didn't try to create a horde of undead, as she would have died on the spot, along with her undead.
Several stormtroopers picking up body parts notice some of them randomly disappearing.
"What the hell?"
"HQ, we got us someone invisible here!"
Copy, sending backup.
The stormtroopers activate their speakers.
"Whoever you are. You can have the aliens. But leave our soldiers alone."
Several squads are running towards them, along with a psyker. They appear to be holding some kind of box.
The troopers raise their guns.

As the clean-up commences, there are a few crow calls from the edge of Town, that seem to be getting louder. Nothing unusual, nothing that noticeable.

Mortessa beats a hasty retreat, literally moving through the rubble as she hopefully gets out of range of anything they're doing.

LordVader
2007-08-06, 10:28 AM
Two squads go to investigate the calls. There have never been crows in Town before.:smalltongue:
((There's nowhere she can go where there won't be people. The whole place is crawling with soldiers, and any collapsed buildings and suchlike are already being searched for bodies.))
They open fire at the disturbed rubble. Probably missing, since they can't see her.

Shabal
2007-08-06, 10:32 AM
The two soldiers find the crow calls coming from an abandoned building, but that doesn't seem to be the main source of them. There are other screeches, higher in the air, coming from the south side of Town.

Metis

The shots ping off the rubble and around her, missing since she is literally in the ground. Even if they 'hit' they'd probably miss, since she lacks a body... but she doesn't feel like risking it, or getting seen.
She attempts to wait it out.

LordVader
2007-08-06, 10:33 AM
The two squads split up. One enters the building, weapons raised, on alert. The other squad heads towards the south side.
Commander, we have crow calls coming from areas around Town. Bit unusual, since there's never been any crows here before. They could be signals for the Noddites. We're investigating.
Very good. The Emperor Protects.
((They have machines lifting the rubble. Any large areas of rubble that could have buried soldiers will be searched for survivors. They'll notice if bodies start disappearing.))
Actually, they don't start shooting, since Mortessa is incorporeal.
((Sorry, forgot.))
They remain there, wary for any more body-snatching. The reinforcements arrive as well.

The inside of the building is literally covered in crows. Hundreds of them. perched on the walls, on furniture, crawling over each other. At the sign of light from the door, they all start shrieking and fly for the door.
Meanwhile, on the south side of Town, the soldiers can see a black cloud moving across the sky. It's definitely smaller than most clouds, it seems to be made up of moving bodies...

LordVader

She is looking for places that haven't been uncovered yet and are below the surface.
Sure there are cranes and machines everywhere, but they can't have done all the work already, right?))

Mortessa starts going deeper and searching for the very trapped and secluded underground areas that the machines haven't reached.

The battalions decide to set up some light gun emplacements and bunkers, thinking it might be a major Nod attack. Men armed with rocket launchers and rifles take cover in the bunkers, and seem nervous. They don't know what's coming, but whatever it is, it's coming, and it's bad.

LordVader
2007-08-06, 10:44 AM

There is probably one or two really deep areas, but that's it. And they won't have many bodies.
((There isn't going to be a lot of deeply buried places, it wasn't that kind of battle. There'll be a few, though.))
The stormtroopers pull up, and jump out. They look amused by the nervousness in the BR soldiers. They take cover as well, though. They're brave, not stupid.

The crow threat, while bizarre, isn't really intimidating. However, most of the crows have accomplished what little they set out to do, and they try to soar off.
