Beginning Story

The sun rises, burning off the morning mist around the town of (pick a town name people). As the people begin to exit their homes and head off to work or start their morning chores, they hear an ear-shattering scream. Running off in that direction they come across a gruesome scene. The doors of Lucky and Tormsskull's Olde Wine Shoppe have been decimated, and blood trails stain the floor.

Tormsskull is found first, torn completely in two, his red cape covering the worst of the horror. And then Lucky can be seen, his little chest pushing up in down in an attempt to hold onto life. With his last breath, he says "Werewolves!" Then he is no more.

The villagers all begin to look at one another uneasily.

The day begins...

*The masked llucha llama trots out of the stable, stretching his neck and then doing an quick rep of 30 push-ups to invigorate himself as he prepares to head out and continue his journey to try out for the latest Mortal Kombat tournament.*

"Alright. That was a good rest. Now to get on with the trip. I'm supposed to meet with a He pulls out a schedule and looks it over. Johnny Cage, to get a bit of training in a couple of days. You know how those Hollywood types hate to be kept waiting.

WAIT! I got big news, big plans, big ideas, bigger than Johnny Cage. I've found the perfect training right here.

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i278/wolfshonor/llamas/donking.gif comes running up to the wrestler.
This is big, its fate, its destiny!! Its opportunity! Its a one in a million chance.

That's great, but what is it? says the slightly annoyed masked ungulate. We are going to train and try to protect Earthrealm from Shao Kahn, remember.

Kid, as your manager, I feel it is my duty to be completely honest with you whenever it suits my best interests. You weren't going to win Mortal Kombat, but that's okay, because I have a better fight; one you might not die in. You don't even have to travel. This place is beset, besieged, and being attacked by werewolves. Now all we have to do is get one to fight you. Just think, Rey LLamasteryio vs the Fanged Fury. It'll be classic, it'll be big, it'll be perfection, it'll throw you into the spotlight so fast you get motion sickness.

*The manager hums happily and works out promotion details in his head while the wrestler stands there looking stunned and a little nervous.*

A young cat wanders out of a nearby shop, mewing pathetically. It nuzzles Lucky's and Tormsskull's bodies.

Mrrp?

Vonriel
2007-08-06, 11:45 AM
Vonriel walks over and picks up the cat. No, no, they was killed by werewolves, they was. Stay away from them, little kitty, just in case they carry the infection on them. He begins scratching her a little, behind the ears and around the neck. We wouldn't want you becoming a werecat, now would we?

There is a tree on the edge of the woods around the town. One tree hears the news of the dead humans and focuses its awareness on the town and its living inhabitents.
As the wind rustles through its leaves a voice is almost heard, poised on the halfway mark between comprehension and nothingness. It sounds like "Gossshhhhh. Whhhatt'ssss thisssss ttthhheeeen?"

A book hops out of a building.
Werewolf(Lupis Lycanthropus):a person who shapeshifts into a wolf or wolflike creature, either purposely, by using magic, or after being placed under a curse. They are sometimes said to be immortal.

The lumberjack steps out of his hut, ready to begin days work. He looks around and sees the mess.

Holy crap! What happenend here? Werewolfes you say? We have to be very careful the next nights!

He looks around suspicously.

Maybe they have already infected our village!

CurlyKitGirl

Hmmm. Most unfortunate. I'd rather hoped to spend my remaining years peacefully, not having to ply the trade of sword and torch again.

Vonriel
2007-08-06, 12:17 PM
Vonriel looks at the pathetic look the kitty is giving him and sighs. Ok, let's get you back to my house, I have some milk and some dried meat you might enjoy.. Still scratching at the kitty, he sets off for the house next door. What? Why're you looking at me like that? Hey, they set up shop next to me, I didn't move in next to them! Nevermind the fact that I knew where they were planning on setting it up..

Setting the bowl on the porch, he fills it up with the cold milk, before returning it inside. There you go. He looks out and sees everyone pointing, and tosses his point toward the llucha llama. Crazy masked llama, nothing but trouble.

A man dressed in a feather robe and whose forehead radiates with the light within wanders through town. His travels have brought him far, but this is truly one of the more strange places he's been to, and never has he encountered a scene of devastation like this, which moves him to speak. As he does, you realize that all his speech is in poetry.

I come upon a village, the trees themselves are crying.
A scene of death; the lycanthropes have left two good men lying
In their blood, a scene not soon dismissed, no forgetting or denying.
Some of us are mad with rage, and some of us are sighing
That this tragedy has struck our home and left two good men dying.

No evidence have we today to tell us who has lied
About their own identity, about their sinful pride.
Just raw suspicion have we here for the man who must be tried.
My point: it's Zar Peter who must pay for these two good men who've died.

Cannon to left of them,
Cannon to right of them...wait...wrong poem...

He trails off and mumbles something about screwing up his lines.

Pwenet, the owner of a small weapons shop in the Town, named simply Pwenet Morgans Weapons and Supplies, pushes out a sign indicating a sale in front of his store, indicating that everything is on sale due to the werewolves attack.

"There, that should get some more business here. Us villagers need to defend ourselves!"

Polishing one of his own personal weapons, a weapon known as "My Boomstick!", he experimentally aims it at Zar Peter as he walks by, trying to defend himself. He pulls the trigger, but the "Boomstick" clicks, for he never loaded it.

"Hmm, might need to adjust the sights a bit.

Whistling he goes back inside to check his supply of silver based weapons.

In this game it is to our advantage to stay in bandwagons. If we all vote for different people, those who are leaders will be easily identified by the were wolves and subsequently eaten. It is to the werewolves advantage to promote voting for different people despite the fact that bandwagons are normal.

Therefore I am now suspicious of Malmagor, Khaldan, douglas, and Vonriel, because they voted for different people in short order instead of one of the two people already voted for. This is only a small suspicion right now, and I think its not worth starting yet another voting line.

I point at Zar Peter. It's partly random (among those who have been voted for), and partly because he was the last passenger in Pirates.

"This is a dark day, by gummit! And I'm sure we all know who's ta blame, eh?"

There is a banging coming from under the inn. A pounding, if you will. With each bang, the sawdust at the bottom of the inn shakes a little. Finally, a trapdoor opens, and several handfuls of sawdust and sand pour down on whoever opened it.

From the depths, an unopened keg slowly rises to be set on the floor next to the trapdoor.

Covered in cobwebs, dust, and mouse...er..dirt Andre is visibly tipsy. Taking inventory often means eliminating the overages.

"Dou know, if Iaye taught oopeening an tavern would be dees much verk I'd never have done it."

He rolls the keg over to the bar, and lifts it up.

After setting up the keg for the day, he flips the sign in the window from "Closed" to "Open" and opens the double doors.

Having already anticipated the crowd outside, Andre the 'retired' Duelist quickly grabs Rose, kisses her, and declares "Voila! Open!"

"But the perks, they are nice!"

As the crowd meanders in, Andre checks his accounts book. Sadly, two old friends owe him a significant amount... Curly and Zar Peter.

"Ah, but what ees a little meelk, when luve is in the air?"

Anticipating her arrival, Andre prepares a gallon of water with some fertilizer mixed in.

Lets be honest, even if hes just a villager he'll have his hand in something.

Well, I know that you'll all be making a mistake by lynching me.
I mean, why would you remove one of the village's greatest weapons against the wolves?
Make them waste a night killing me themselves, I say.

But I don't like you guys going after ZP one day one, YET AGAIN!
I mean, really! Give the guy a chance to PLAY in one of these games already!

So I guess I'll *point at me, too, just on that alone.

And yes, Khaldan, I have been lynched on day one before.
In Ye Olde West.
Guess what I was....
Villager.

It seems that whenever you guys are smart enough to lynch me early on, I'm one of the good guys. :smallwink:

If/when I am lynched, look to those pointing at me to find a good number of wolves. They are afraid of me and want me dead as soon as possible!

The tavern is more busy than usual for a Tuesday. Andre has travelled up and down into the basement twice to bring up new kegs.

The gossip is filling the air, phrases like 'wolfsbane (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfsbane_%28comics%29)', lycanthropy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lycanthropy), and silver bullets (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver_bullet).

All this talk of werewolves and wolf-men made Andre reflect on his youth and his own experience with the Beast of Gevaudan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beast_of_G%C3%A9vaudan).

His own suspicion, bourne out of his career as a duelist traveling from town to town was that werewoves were in fact Pricolici (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pricolici), or people that returned from the dead to prey as wolves in the night (which makes sense in this game as WE ALL die to come back to play more WW games!)

Shaken out of his reverie, he exclaims " Oh no! If aye'm to be paid for Zar Peter's bar tab, then aye must git et before they leench heem!"

Your assumption would be wrong. If the leaders all die, its game over and the wolves win.
If the leaders are tied in their voting, the bandwagon with more "non-leader" votes is the tie-breaker.

------
If all the leaders are in the minority band-wagon? We're screwed. Or at least sustained a solid blow to the head. Thats the way the cookie crumbles.
But I can't really think of a better plan right now.

>This single bandwagon doesn't help the uncover the werewolves either
Is there any method you can think of that does uncover wolves?
You're right. If we all vote in a bandwagon, the wolves will merge with the sheep, and it will just be pot luck the whole game.
Remember though, the wolves don't know who each other are right now. So they can't know whether to derail a bandwagon or not. And their day-votes don't count anyway. Voting record is going to be practically useless in this game.
I think the outcome of this game will depend on the Seer/Devil. Probably leaning slightly in favour of a villager win.

And because I lived that long in Pirates? That's game criss-crossing, you shalt not do that! Death scene forward:

Please be advised, I like to create detailed death scenes. Nothing that I write in the death scene is related to the game play mechanics besides the summary. If I mention another player in the scene in order to make it sound better/react to the mood of the game, DO NOT ASSUME that person's actions, thoughts, what have you, are related to how they did or did not vote. I am not trying to tip anyone off. I am not giving any hints. It is only a description. It is only for fun.

The sun sets on the little town of Unknownia, and the people, terrified by recent events, are quick to scurry back into their homes. All except two people.

The kobold stood toe to toe with Shadow, eyeing him down. "It is you! We should have lynched you! You're one of the werewolves."

Shadow dismissed the kobold with a wave of his hand, walking into his home furiously. Shortly thereafter, a thud was heard on the door. "Back for some more? Bring it on little man!"

The door splintered to pieces as a werewolf crashed through it, stumbling to the ground. Shadow grabbed a poker from his fire place, faux-fencing with it to keep the wolf at bay. The wolf tensed, leaping right at Shadow, but he was prepared, and evaded away as the wolf crashed into the wall. He ran through the door, about to yell for help.

It was pitch black outside, expect for a pair of red dots. Red eyes. Two pairs. Three pairs. Countless pairs. Shadow sighed as the pack leapt untop of him.

When morning finally came around, Shadow was missing, but a large area in front of his house was covered in blood.

As he gets to the end of the sentence, he notices the large splatter of blood on Shadow's front porch. Gods. They.. liquefied him.. He swallows audibly, trying to keep from throwing up right then and there. Trouble is, we don't have any motives for this attack. Coulda been to frame someone, coulda been because they knew he would figure it all out. I always thought he was too smart for his own good.. He sighs, and sits heavily in a chair on the porch.

"We have been betrayed!"

Those are the first words out of Pwenets mouth as he emerges from his store, holding a loaded crossbow and a flaming torch. He points the blazing torch at the tree.

"That tree somehow convinced us that Zar Peter was a Werewolf, and in our ignorance we killed what turned out to be a LEADER, one who could pull us out of these dark times and into the lighted world of no Werewolves. How will Zar Peter help us now, dead by our own hands? I am saddened that I was swayed by the Tree, yet now my eyes are OPEN! All that we can do is make sure that tree does not twist words and have us kill yet ANOTHER leader! I dare say that the tree is somehow, through dark magics, a WereWolf in disguise! BURN THE TREE (CurlyKitGirl)!!!

((ALso ZP was an RP point))

The tree appears to shy away from the fire without even moving. A wordless hiss comes from the Willows' leaves. A branch falls and points at Pwenet in its terror.

((Again an RP point in character. What tree enjoys a fire; aside from a suicidal one naturally?))

Pwenet
2007-08-09, 12:30 PM
((All trees fear fire, which is why I brought the torch  Of course if I'm another leader and get lynched cause of you, what does that say about your reputation :smallwink: Tis good fun in this game, but may thy who die, dies well this day.))

Seeing the tree point at him, Pwenet smiles and thrusts his torch a little closer to the tree.

"See how this bewitched and cursed thing does what it did last time? Don't read into its lies!"

2007-08-09, 12:42 PM
Alarra flits out and over to her friend tree again. She glares at Pwenet. "No. We must protect the forest."

She spins in an elaborate twirl, her outstretched hand pausing to point at Timberwolf. "Spend the night in the forest?"

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

"What? A bit melodramatic? Fine. DO-OVER!"

Indurain walks away and then comes back again. He spots the corpse and walks over to it.

"Alas, poor Shadow, I knew him well."

With that he touches a finger to his ear, which allows him to hear all the discussion that took place while he was sleeping. He seems to nod his head a few times in understanding before turning back to address the rest of the village.

"While many of us were upset about the loss of Zar Peter, one person immediately went on the defensive claiming 'it wasn't my fault'. That seems mighty suspicious to me."

Indurain points at Timberwolf.

"You crazy psychedelic light show has convinced me that mayhapes I am acting to rashly in this case. It could be possible, nay, probable that the Tree was acting out of fear, and a horrible mistake was made. That being said."

Pwenet turns, pointing his crossbow at Timberwolf.

Mourning over the tragic mistake of the day past when his beloved village lost one of it's greatest assets, Taliesin ((me)) plays a mournful elegy on his lyre for both Zar Peter and Shadow.

"Life becomes a brittle thing
When we suspect our friends
And tragedy befalls us all
When beautiful life ends.

Today we mark two painful deaths
And blood's upon our hands,
Forget these men we sure will not
As sure as trees do stand.

After pausing a moment, he gazes around those assembled, and begins again.

"Our town is locked in epic fight,
Swift action we must take each night
Although, when we diffuse the light
Our judgements will not all be right.

When all fingers must turn to one,
And when the bloodshed has begun,
The wolf knows that he counts for none
When the fingers have attained the sum.

To say the wolves agreed with us
In our mistakes is dangerous
For to be sure, the wolf must trust
That logic sways the high'st of us.

And sure he must, to keep his ruse
Light another, lesser fuse.
Attend and sit in chapel pews
Instead of grand cathedral hues.

And thus, the wolf, so light and limber,
Whom we must set alight with tinder
And burn into a petty cinder
Is thus cut from the stock of Timber(wolf).

The evidence before the court is incontrovertible;
There's no need for the jury to reti...damn it! I did it again!"

The feathered bard looks away shyly. He wishes someone would invent the printing press already and get rid of this annoying oral tradition of poetry.

((i.e. the wolves know that their votes don't count, so the logic that they'd all get on the bandwagon is kind of thrown out the window. What they'd sooner do is simply point at anyone and let the villagers with logic make actual arguments to sway the leaders. So we can't necessarily assume that all the wolves were pointing at Zar Peter, though some most likely were.))

Well the current strategy seems to be all jump on one bandwagon, that way we camouflage the leaders with our votes, and the wolves can't root them out easily. Of course then the wolves also merge with the bandwagons, so it doesn't help to locate wolves.

In other words it is all just pot luck right now.

Obviously at least one leader was pointing at Zar Peter yesterday, but there are a lot of names on that list (20 or so). I'm not sure why Timberwolf has been picked as a target today, except that he didn't vote for Zar Peter, so removing him won't remove any of the 'camouflage'.

If we manage to get through the next few days, then the Seer can start building up contacts. I guess we just hope we don't lynch the seer in the meantime. Thats the risk we take with this tactic.

I don't think the way you chose her is the right course, anyway. He sighs again. However, you're right in one thing, for now, it's safer to vote as a group to try and hide the leaders. Vonriel adds his vote for Timberwolf.

(( People, stop it with the usual tactics. You won't be able to identify wolves by vote, at least not as easily. ZRS was right: Wolf votes don't count, so they won't bother doing much more than adding to a total to cause votes like mine, which are done to try to hide the leaders. We're our own worst enemy, this game more so than others. Try and remember this. ))

If everyone was on one bandwagon, the wolves would have the entire village to pick their kill from...which they already have. On the other extreme, if everyone voted for different people, once the tie breakers were worked out, the wolves would have a very short list to get a leader from. Obviously these extremes aren't going to happen, but obviously bandwagons protect better.

Of course if you have a very good reason to vote against someone else, post it and try to shift everyone's vote.

In reply to Indurain's earlier comment and general analysis:

The werewolves' best tactic is to try to start secondary bandwagons of as close as possible size as the primary.

As Whitehelm, and possibly Evnafets (can't be bothered to double check) have pointed out, this would start to give them a check list. They can start seeing patterns. For that reason I find those pointing at Alarra suspicious, and also that 3rd and 4th vote in that list are liable to be most supicious.

For a similar reason I find Atreyu suspicious. He claims to point at Indurain to throw off any wolves making Excel spreadsheets. However in fact this will help them. Has he just made an honest mistake, or is he trying to mislead us by claiming a good motive for a poor action?

The Werewolves would most like everyone to vote for someone completely different on the grounds that the lynchee would be the first person pointed at by a leader - instant identification of a victim to be eaten.

The best way to beat the werewolves is for everyone to have some discussion, and once a most popular lynchee is found, for everyone to vote for that person, and anyone who has already voted elsewhere to change their vote. As people have pointed out, we cannot find wolves by voting patterns. They don't know who each other are, and so will not be voting in concert even if they wanted to. Also their votes don't count so there is no way to distinguish between villagers and wolves. Lastly, leaders don't know they are leaders. Nor do they know who each other are. So you cannot analyse how people voted, you can only analyse the final votes to cross reference between different rounds and hence find the leaders.

Hence in logical conclusion, and as many people have stated, the best way to protect the leaders is for EVERYONE to vote en masse, as a single block, for one person.

Jontom Xire points at TimberWolf.

I suggest that in the next few rounds we concentrate on lynching all those who have tried to persuade/mislead people into splitting the voting.

For a similar reason I find Atreyu suspicious. He claims to point at Indurain to throw off any wolves making Excel spreadsheets. However in fact this will help them. Has he just made an honest mistake, or is he trying to mislead us by claiming a good motive for a poor action?

No. He's just being a nebbish. Trust me, I know the guy. While ultimately, lumping everyone together is probably the best strategy, its mindless robotic nature kinda bores him, so he throws a vote out at Indy every now and then to break the monotony. Exachix isn't playing and the llucha llama and Indy have history, so it seems fun.

Frankly, he's not acting like he usually does when he's a wolf. When he's a villager, he actually cranks up the suspicius nature of his posts so the wolves will be less tempted to eat him, hoping the villagers will get him. When he's a wolf, he'll usually RP but not really draw attention to himself. He'd have completely ignored your post because responding so hard and fast against it looks suspicious in the eyes of many people. However, since he's a villager he wants to look suspicious, so he posts a long response to you.

(( You know, I'm beginning to get rather suspicious of those of you who keep posting these wolf strategies publicly.. ))

It seems to me that ordinarily the wolves will be more focused on the games than the common villagers, and we've already established that not paying attention to the new rules and concepts in a game will quickly spell defeat for the villagers. So odds are that any strategies that are discussed by villagers in the open, the wolves have pondered about in secret. This only allows a more open discussion for the villagers to try to figure out how best to play this game.

Yes, you obviously haven't read not only my analysis, but any of those by other players, who have noticed the immediate and obvious outcome of the rules change: to whit that voting en masse and as a block protects our precious leaders.

I think you're doing a Vonriel. In the last Pirates game Vonriel posted what (he admitted to me in PMs after he died) were blatant lies in an attempt to survive. You're clearly posting blatant lies, and obviously it's to survive. Unfortunately the passengers attempts to lynch me helped the pirates in the last game. Please let's not do the same in this game. To be honest I don't think the effect will be as bad because as soon as I get a significant majority I will be encouraging everyone to vote for me to just to protect the leaders by getting as much of an en masse voting block as possible.

Dun-dun-DUUN frowns slightly at the accusations made at him.
"Hm? I doubt I warrant any attention, and I'm certainly not a werewolf. However, I strongly doubt that anyone who has admitted to being a werewolf would actually be a werewolf. Rather, it would be an action more fitting to the village fool."
Sitting on a rock, he ponders.
"On the other hand, Llamas remind me of a goat, which reminds me of sheep, which remind me of sheepdogs, which reminds me of wolves, which remind me of werewolves."
He nods, satisfied with his (perhaps slightly flawed) logic, and points at Atreyu the Masked LLama.

The llama's words could sure ring true
If but for one distressing fact
That he's forgotten to include.

The wolves have a chaotic pact,
Their numbers are unknown to all,
Including those among their pack.

This "logic" is a telling fall,
A subtle but effective note,
That speaks to those who heed its call.

And thus, with Reason's message wrote
And the only evidence we have to prove,
To the LLama I shall change my vote.

So bitter it is,
Death is little more...uh...I mean...damn." He blushes and curses.

((Remember that this is a paranoia game and the wolves don't have the ability to really confer until the Devil finds them out and gathers them, which wouldn't be this early. I think LLama's subtly trying to throw us off track by "forgetting" this and making us think that the werewolves are discussing strategy. He's trying to get us to discuss possible strategy right in front of the wolves.))

The baying crowd closes in on Timberwolf. She faces them down, glaring at Alarra. "Well, it looks to me like someone else was out last night.". She also looks over at Jontom Xire. "And I thought what we had was special, yet you turn on me at the first sign of trouble. I curse you."

The crowd stops. Curses ? What ? Witchcraft ?

The crowd surges forward screaming "Burn the witch !", all mention of werewolves forgotten.

Someone shoots Timberwolf in the chest with an arrow. She stands there grinning.

"Didn't hurt. I can do this all day if you like."

Someone shoots again, this time with a silver tipped arrow. Timberwolf falls to the ground, dead, reverting to her natural wolfy form.

Timberwolf was (strangely) a werewolf.
[/lynchee provided death scene]

Afterwords, the people of Unknownia, invigorated by their discovery of a wolf, when on hunting. They dragged from their homes two villagers who had been very silent. Raistlin1040 and Funkyodor were lynched right next to one another. But neither turned into werewolves. In fact, both had a ton of mourners.

Summary: Timberwolf, a werewolf, was lynched. Raistlin1040, a Leader, was autolynched due to non-participation. Funkyodor, a Leader, was autolynched due to non-participation.

For which we've paid an awful price
Six of us by name:

And knowing that we still aren't safe,
Our victory grows colder.

Suspicion is among us still:

*Llucha llama sniffs the bucket suspiciously and looks to his manager* Did you just try to name the town after yourself and I believe this bucket is filled with BBQ sauce. How am I supposed to climb a pole anyway? I've got hooves!!

With night hanging heavy on the town of Unknownia, and the villagers all tucked away in their homes, a loud howl is heard outside.

...

He stood there, looking out the window, wondering how many wolves there were. Then, when the moon was full, he changed. His body grew thick fur, his finger nails replaced by sharp claws, and his teeth grew and gained wicked points. It was time to feed. He could think of nothing else.

He threw the door to his home open and rushed outside, going on all fours. In front of him were several other wolves. He looked around, wondering who the target was tonight. When the wolves all jumped towards him, he realized, HE was the target.

Furthermore, the tree is currently embroiled in a minor fight against termites and is becoming bored. Cursing could be distinguished in the wind; if one bothered to listen; and this sentiment: "Woolvvessss Bane'ssss a nicce nammee."

Only one person has ever voted for Jontom, Indurain in day 1. This was also going against the bandwagon at the time, which is a bad strategy.

However, I am more concerned with doliemaster, who acted like a werewolf last night. This is a very good strategy for wolves to avoid suspicion (I've used it effectively in realtime games many times), so I make a point to point at whoever does so. If he's a villager, then all wolf-claiming does is distract people from the real wolves, which is bad villager strategy.

Therefore I will point at doliemaster, and leave Indurain for tomorrow. If you guys decide to bandwagon Indurain today, I'll change my vote, and vote for dolie tomorrow.
