I was just introduced to Ruroni Kenshin a bit ago, and finally saw the live-action trilogy.
I noticed that people in this world, when walking about, will often keep things stored in a sort of backpack/fanny pack thing on their lower backs. It's something subtle, and hard to find pictures of when I don't know how best to describe it. Here's a screencap of Himura Kenshin wearing one, on the left.

Does anyone know what these are called? Are they products in & of themselves? Or are they more of a style of folding cloth for a specific purpose (like furoshiki)?
