View Full Version : Pathfinder Is Natural Armor provided by race an EX ability?

So...Alteration sphere from spheres of power. Polymorph stuff. I am using an Ogre as a base character. 3 Natural Armor.

As a polymorph effect, it would stand to reason "hey, you know that really tough skin you had? Now you have slimy...stuff." But I don't think Natural Armor is actually affected, similar to how I believe size and stats are retained (and maybe modified).

Is my interpretation correct?

Second question. Assuming you keep the natural armor, do you have to change it to the "Natural armor bonus" a new form grants, or do you take the best one, or do you add it as a bonus to Natural Armor?

EDIT: This refers to Pathfinder.

When you change forms, whether through Polymorph or Alter Self or racial abilities, you change your Natural Armor to that of the creature you're changing into. It overrides your NA the same way a Polymorph overrides your STR stat. If the creature has no NA, you lose your bonus from your normal form.

Really depends on Pathfinder or 3.5 as they have different base polymorph rules.

It's pathfinder. I tagged it as Pathfinder. I'll edit the main thing to say it as well.

If natural armor is tagged as Extraordinary (such as in some race descriptions), then yes. Otherwise, no, natural armor is a natural ability (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/#TOC-Natural-Abilities).

OK. Cool. Answers that question. Didn't even know that classification was a thing.
