Item Resets! DM question.

So my players are currently preparing for total war in a small city they have made camp in. An impending army marches on then and they are trying to figure out a plan to help.

One of them has a amulet of planes, they are level 8 so I have put two charges on it to limit it some, and said it resets at dawn.

Now my question is, if things go wrong and the user ends up let's say in the faywild, or someplace where there is no dawn, would the necklace ever recharage? Or does the magic never replace itself?

Depends if it's an item who recharge because of the dawn itself (like, it needs to be touched by dawn's light or something) or if it's just "during this time of the day" (in which case it recharges every X hours regardless of where the item is)
