I've read all four MtG Plane Shift articles (Amonkhet, Zendikar, Innistrad, Kaladesh), and I'm wondering if anyone has experience playing them in setting or even just using some elements in more traditional Dnd. Were the settings fun and the races balanced? Was it extremely difficult to DM? Player and DM views are welcome.

I haven't adapted much from the Plane Shift series, but I have added all the Zendikar races to my homebrew world. Vampire is a great player race, couple it with a wizard necro or enchanter for full effect. People prefer Volo's goblins, but Zendikar's is just fine. Merfolk and it's subtypes are great, I have one in an aquatic campaign alongside a Volo's Triton. It's nice.

I plan on adding Amonkhet's races to the roster, just gonna slap them in my desert region and get rid of the Nicol Bolas fluff.

I played as a Pyromancer as it about the equivalent of a storm sorc but has better spells. It seemed pretty balanced. I was good a killing mooks but the fire resistant boss turned me into a helpless little kitten. The settings seems interesting if that's the kind of atmosphere your into.

why not? having a Great Wyrm Half Red (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/halfDragon.htm) Gold dragon (http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Gold_Dragon)* seems** like an awesome ruler for the region, and combine in the gods and you have a nice quaint evil empire for the players

*yes, heresy linking to 2 different SRD refferences. I cant direct link gold dragon though
**Because Nicol Bolas is absolutely using 3.5 rules

Heh, now that you mention it that DOES sound pretty badass...maybe he'll make an appearance yet. But for sure, I'd be stacking templates on him, if not just straight up adding class levels. On that note, for the campaign factor of this thread, how WOULD you build him? He's clearly ancient, but what class levels? Wizard?

well, he would have the half red template on him, and then beyond that i would just update the stats from 3.5 to 5E, letting him retain the abilities of a 19th level Dragonblooded Sorcerer. except he has the spells known of a 3.5 sorcerer, and the spell slots of one. I dont know if he should Bolas himself a set of legendary actions, or if having nearly 40 spells known + incredible endurance would really render it irrelevant.
