Nothing. At all. Sorry, it sucks.

You get Powerful Build and uneven stat increases.

The whole point of level adjustment is that it's levels you don't get to compensate for the unusually high bonuses for your race.

Nope. Goliath doesn't get any racial hit dice.

wouldn't I have 1 monstrous human levelNo. That'd be racial hit dice, not level adjustment.

You get better than average stats and abilites, which equates to being worth a level

You can't start at 1st level with an LA character, you start as a 2nd level equivalent with the standard full hp + con modifier for 1 level in a class.

It depends on the DM, how it works for us in Darksun atm is that you start at level one and then accrue XP as per normal except that you dont actualy gain the next actual level till your LA is worked off (the Psion is living the tough life of a D4 HD and a +2LA)

Your lvl 3 goliath barbarian looks like this:

HD: (12+Con) + (1d12 + Con)
Class abilities: As level 2 barbarian.
Saves: +3 Fort
Skills: (4+int)x4 + (4+int)

Basically, you only have 2 levels and are considered by the game to be level 3 because of your LA race. This is because you have unfair (often referred to as uneven) ability score adjustments, powerful build and other abilities.

You have the experience points and the wealth of a level 3 character.

...Basically, you only have 2 levels and are considered by the game to be level 3 because of your LA race.To clarify : the game only considers you to be third level for experience and for recommended wealth. Not for anything else.
