Hey guys I need help.

What does 30 ft. reach on a Medium creature look like? The charts that I find online assume that 30 ft. reach is only possible with a Large or Huge creature. When I try to extrapolate it to a Medium creature, only funky results happen.

I created a Google Sheet here but I am unsure if it is correct. Would you guys mind helping me double check my chart?

Thanks so much guys!

D6 cant be gotten too as you need to have an even number of diagonals to get to it meaning the step from the 25ft square at E7 would require 10ft movement.

Because F9 is 15, E9 is 20 and D9 is 25, C9 should be 30 and B9 shouldn't be in your reach.

Wait what does that mean?

It should be 35 ft?

I'm pretty sure reach doesn't use the "every other diagonal counts as 10 feet" rule. Look at the space and reach diagrams on page 308 of the DMG - the medium creature with 10 foot reach is able to attack into a square that would require 15 feet to move to. Based on this observation, I think each additional 5 feet of reach would just let a medium creature attack into another "ring" of squares one square farther out from his previous reach. In the specific case of 30 foot reach, the creature would be able to attack any space within a square region whose corners are those spaces that would take 45 feet of movement for him to reach - B5, N5, B17 and N17 in the spreadsheet.

Edit: I was wrong!

EDIT: Come to think of it, that's not even quite ridiculous enough.

I'm pretty sure reach doesn't use the "every other diagonal counts as 10 feet" rule.

A specific exception is made for medium or small creatures with reach weapons, but otherwise it does, or the implication is that it does. This does mean that diagonally charging a large creature should be safe.

I updated the chart according to your suggestions.

Does it make sense now? Have I followed the double diagonal = 15 ft rule?
