A capitalist hippy to be exact. None of that communist healthcare.

See, I have been thinking, she gets all the dwarf souls that does not die in battle, right? Honorable death and all that. Well, then she should really get into the whole peace, love and harmony thing. Harmony and understanding. If there is no hate, no battles, well then nobody can die in a battle now can they. She is shooting herself in the foot by aligning herself with evil, a message of peace would sure win her support from a lot of good gods in various pantheons. Sure, war comes with lots of sickness, but that is only a token number compared to the number od souls she would get from complete peace and harmony.

Unless (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0737.html) they pick a fight with a conifer and die in battle, or die of alcohol related illnesses, of course.

It all fits with my emo goth teenage goddess theory. How odd.

I suspect the absence of the living among Hel's worshipers would impact how many battles among the living dwarves she could realistically dissuade.

Besides, the destruction of the world would rather effectively prevent battles from taking place on it :smalltongue:

Would dying of overdoses from other drugs besides alcohol let Dwarves avoid Hel?

I'd say no. First, beer gets an exception due to being traditional dwarven beverage. Second, dying of cirrhosis of the liver is not the same as dying of an overdose (the first is a long term degenerative disease, the other is an instantaneous effect).

In a world with no war all dwarves would be bored to death by alcohol poisoning.

Here's a similar thought. The fact that dwarves must die in battle or be damned would seem to predispose them to violent lives. Even if all evil were defeated, including foul trees, they would still be required to go around looking for trouble like drunken frat boys. This is, in short, not a religion of peace.

Which makes it surprisjng that the dwarf nation has not yet declared war on all that breathes. Surely they've worked through all the trees they have.

And if they haven't, perhaps the trees are a bigger threat than they seem?

As per this thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?442359-Why-aren-t-95-of-dwarven-souls-going-to-Hel-anyway), that is not the case. First, because it doesn't require a death in battle, but a honorable death. A dwarf that dies of a rockslide while trying to save people trapped in a mine, or of exposure while delivering needed supplies to a far off settlement during a harsh winter (to reference two examples given by the Giant) also have had honorable deaths and go to their allotted planes.

What it does predispose is to a society of people who, knowing that they better die via honorable causes, will take risks for honour that other societies might not: with 300 years before natural death, such "risk you life for others" occasions will cross their paths multiple times, and for most, one such occasion does kill them, thus securing their next life away from Hel.

Remember that Dwarves have a bonus against poisons, and that likely includes alcohol poisoning :smalltongue:

I'd never read that Terrible Winter short story before. It's really good.

Considering their diet, most Dwarves probably die from alcohol related issues.

No, as per word of author, most dwarves die honorably, usually in some fight (clan war, honor duel, hostilities versus other races, etc.) or helping others. Other than for the purposes of generating a punchline, dwarves do not generally die of cirrhosis nor of fighting trees.

They have two livers (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0375.html). It would take a while to work through them both.

Well, attacking conifers is also not very hippy like, is it? They should hug the trees instead.

It would benefit Hel a lot to promote a hippy lifestyle, at least if she succeeded.

This ***** gets it! Just spruce up the after life to be more appealing so the dwarfs wants to go there and you are good to go. "Hel; cus we got sex". I mean, sure, she is not the god of love, but that is how STD spreads so she is in full right to go with it, STDs orgies for everyone! Go a bit Pappa Nurgle and make it so you can't feel the unpleasant effects of STDs and its all peachy.

Trouble is she has no priesthood still, so nobody will ever know...
