I played this at a friend's house and instantly fell in love. so i downloaded it, but now it has come up with a bunch of zipped files. i'm not very tech-savvy, so i was wondering, could anyone tell me how to install it? also,he had little pictures of dwarves instead of the font based graphics, where could i find that, and how do i install it?

It's fairly straightforward, just run dwarfort.exe. If you don't have WinRAR or WinZip, you can get them here (http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm) and here (http://www.winzip.com/prod_down.htm), respectively. I recommend WinRAR.

EDIT: For graphics, you could look here (http://dwarf.lendemaindeveille.com/index.php/Tilesets), then download one you like and replace the files in raw/graphics with the new ones. I think. Emphasis on think.

thanks arang. is anyone more certain on graphics changing? my friend said it was tricky

EDIT: it just comes up with: this application has failed to start because fmod.dll was not found. re-installing the application may fix the problem. i alrady deleted it and re-downloaded it once. any suggestions?

Hmm, just google for fmod.dll. It's a dll that people tend to be missing a lot, for some reason. When you find it, put it in the same directory as the game.

I prefer www.tugzip.com, since it opens .zip, .rar, plus just about all the others.

its an ascii graphics based game (but you can get tilesets) where you get 7 dwarves, and have to build a huge fortress in a mountain. its fairly complex, with seiges, economics, engineering etc. its freeware, just google it and youll find a link to dl it

Yeah, I've tried it. My friend and I have been seeing who can survive longest in Adventurer mode, but we both still have suicidal rampages on towns. Which means we get pwnz0rd.

In regards to tilesets, your friend almost surely was using the Dystopian Rhetoric tileset, which is pretty much the most favored tileset at the moment, having the most (if not all) creatures, and being the smallest, I believe.

The Dystopian Rhetoric tileset can be found here (I suggest downloading the easy pack if you don't want to tinker around with it, but you will, of course have to move the saves to the new DF folder if you want to keep them): http://dwarf.lendemaindeveille.com/index.php/Object_Tilesets

If you wanted to install something other than the dystopian rhetoric tileset, these are instructions on how to: http://dwarf.lendemaindeveille.com/index.php/Object_Tileset_Installation

Hope that helps. :P
