View Full Version : Showing why each of the strong spells in 3.5 is strong with YouTube

For another bit of fun and slight thought experimentation, posting a youtube clip for each of the strong/broken 3.5 spells polymorph, gate, etc.

I'll start with why Polymorph/Shapechange is powerful:
Video Name: Ben 10,000 RECKS Kevin 11,000! (Brutal) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1c09OWIbspM)

There's no reason why other youtubes can't be posted for the same spell if you feel they are more applicable, or provide a different perspective, etc.

Gate allows you to break the game by getting an Efreet with it, commanding it to use its wish SLA to replicate Simulacrum 3 times and replicate himself. Then order him to order the simulacrums to obey only you, not even the original efreet. Now you have 9 daily wishes for free.

Miracle allows you to replicate basically any spell on any spell list so that's given. If with Magic-Psionic transparency which is default then you also have access to powers.

The Celerity line is basically actions now instead of later and allows you to have 2 rounds worth of actions in one, due to how short lived combat is the extra actions are basically a combat ender.

That can be summed-up better.

Most spells considered to be powerful (or broken) are not self-contained discreet rules elements but need one or more additional sources that are not part of the PHB/CRB.

What Gate, Polymorph, Simulacrum and Ice Assassin have in common is the need to reference the MM/Bestiary to even work and critters donīt follow the same rules the govern regular characters.

Gate is limited by your CL... Advance caster level enough and your calling on creatures from the Immortals Handbook!

Wish can create any magic item! No price limit! So get a +100 sword... no problem!

I suppose. Epic is usually pretty busted though.

Yeah, that's a pretty good demonstration.

The biggest thing I took from that clip is that heroes, like villains, can also be dumb enough to stop mid-fight and brag about their plan/secret weakness to the enemy. Monologuing Is Not A Free Action.
