Suppose a druid casts the spell Maelstrom, creating a 60' wide 5' tall whirlpool. Prior to doing so, he cast Water Walk. He then jumps on top of the maelstrom.

What happens?

I picture the druid floating around the top like a dad on an inner tube in a circular above-ground pool while his kids run around the sides.

well, back in the day water walk specifically kept you from touching the water. 5e doesn't specify one way or the other, but it *does* say you can treat all liquid surfaces as if it were harmless solid ground.

harmless solid ground is generally not swirling around in a circle, so i'd say you don't get moved around. however, if the water level dropped, you would drop with it, so don't stand in the centre of where you want to cast the maelstrom :P

(as another way to look at it, water is pretty much *always* moving, so if the spell didn't compensate for that, it wouldn't really work).

Also, what happens if you stand on a swiftly- moving river, or attempt to walk into chest-high breakers?
