I think usually Greater Deities have four, and Lesser Deities have three, but I hear there are exceptions to this rule... I think there's a goddess with only one domain, in fact. Are there any gods that have atypical numbers of domains that their clerics can take?

Obad-Hai is only intermediate, but has 6 domains.

There was a dragon magazine with a number of 'least deities', such as a venerable immortal human who could bestow slight clerical powers upon his descendants, or a sentient tree that was worshipped by the small town built around it. I'm fairly sure a few of those had only one (or even no) domains.

Shiny. Do you have cite for the issue? I'm interested.

I've never seen any corollary between deity type and the number of domains. But the number of domains assigned to deities bloomed as more domains were added to the game.

Additionally, where does that leave philosophies? 3.0 Deities & Demigods has The Academy, under the Greek pantheon that gives access to Knowledge and Good, nothing else.

CDiv lists 5 domains for just about all the standard Greyhawk ones.
