Why would Haley (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0646.html) think Elan was ... anything, really, but implicitly dead? Elan had good reason to believe Haley was dead, but as far as Haley knew Elan was fine. Anyone have a more sensible interpretation of Haley's line in the last panel?

This is just after a lot of character growth for Haley. She's been insecure, hiding everything from everyone, and generally being completely irrational. There was an extended plot point where her inner-selves argued with themselves and her (wow that sentence would be confusing without context). She loves Elan and had recently made up her mind to be open with Elan. Its not a stretch to think in her irrational love she feared he was dead and she'd never get the chance to share anything with him. Or anyone as later strips highlights how big a step it was to share with her love, she wouldn't be able to share with anyone.

I think she had decent enough cause to believe he was possibly dead during the time skip and before the revelation of the cloister, I don't see it as farfetched that she either went back to those fears when suddenly seeing him again or kept them despite having a reason for the lack of contact and later knowing he was on his way. (And the lack of contact is more a reason to fear something happened, any resulting fears that something could of happened annd the possibility of it would still apply)

Elan had good reason to believe Haley was dead, but as far as Haley knew Elan was fine.

All Haley knows is that Elan was probably aboard the ship she saw sailing out to sea. She was far too far away to know for sure he was aboard, though, and when she heard nothing about what happened to that ship for more than three months you can understand why she'd be concerned that he might have died--especially since a possible alternative would be that he didn't care enough about her to come back.

She has no way of being sure if he even made onto Hinjo's Junk, she just saw Hinjo's Junk recede into the difference.

She and Belkar been in the city a long time (months?) and neither V or Durkon have tried to contact them.

The possibility they might *all* be dead must really eat away at Haley every night.

Hinjo's Junk. Heh.

It's interesting to me with your signature. The details is whats missing!

They did try and contact her. Epic spell prevented it. Though from her point of view nothing is wrong about it.

Haley had no proof of live for anyone beyond Belkar for a long time. A successful sending to Durkon was the first contact, even if second hand, in a really long time and only proved Durkon himself was alive.

When you love someone fears for them abound. It's worse in their world as so many things can do so much worse than kill.

I thought she meant "gone forever". You know, that whole "Oh look, he left you! Big surprise there". http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0483.html

Yeah, that works too--since she never finished the sentence we don't know exactly what her next words would have been.
