View Full Version : I made Rivergard Keep

Recently my players ended up laying siege to Rivergard keep (from the Princes of the Apocalypse adventure).

My first instinct was to build the castle at large scale using my copious stocks of Playmobil (I have a lot of Playmobil), but space is tight, and I realised that an overview of castle structure was more useful than a battle-map style. (I'm aware that a large size keep has been made already, and it is dammed impressive, but I didn't have need of that.) So I decided to make my own visual aid, and thought I might share.

Castle overview, seen from the river side.

West view, showing the main gate and the gatehouse. Note that the entrance to the keep on the left is missing.

North view, this is looking down from the foothills to the north of the castle, keep on the right.

East view, from the water. You can see the entrance to the Dark Stream, and the internal buildings

South view, this is how you would see the castle approaching along the road from the south. Note that there is no gate this way. I've also gone with the wall contour suggested by the picture, over the one in the map.

Thanks! It sort of grew out of control, like I hadn't meant to do crenellations, or flocking, or painting ... then it just sort of happened :D

As a miniatures war gamer in several sizes/"scales" -3mm, 6mm, 15/18mm, 25+mm,) I truly understand how that works.

Very nice representation of the object.

Hah, yes. I've not done miniature painting / conversion in many many years now, but I never got through many figures because there was always *more* detail I could be painting ...

Looks great!

The party's I'm in actually just finished up this dungeon a few sessions ago. Seeing it brought to life like that is really cool.

Did you do it normal dungeon style, or in a mass assault?

My players have encircled it with a ditch, palisade, and picket line. They have also done an aquatic commando raid to damage the castle food supplies. Jolliver, meanwhile, has put mantlets on top of all the walls, and has Bloodsword Legion Hobgoblin reinforcements.
