Polymorphing familiars?

Would it be possible to poly your familiar? I have an owl familiar and I thought the other day how cool it'd be to poly him into like a bear or something in combat then poly myself into the same thing and just have a small squad of animals fighting. (Obviously situational picks on said creatures polyed)

Also side note: the spell does say creature with same or lesser CR. Could I become an elemental?

Polymorphed or not, non-chainlock familiars lack the attack option.

Owl to bear: No, for the reason mentioned in the post: The CR must stay the same. Owl has CR 0, so the beast it's polymorphed into must also have CR 0.

Spellcaster to elemental: Also no, if we're talking about Polymorph. Besides CR limitations, the spell also specifies beasts. Elemental is not a beast. True Polymorph, however, doesn't have such limitation.
