So I'm trying to build a Devotion Paladin / Sorcerer who uses a longsword and plate armor. The reason for a longsword is both for feel and to remove the need for War Caster (sorcerer spells).
None of the offensive fighting styles work well with a longsword as written, but UA Tunnel Fighter appears to suit the character well. When combined with Sentinel, it would make the character a good "tank," and would also give a default use for his bonus action. Additionally, more reaction attacks are always good on a paladin.
With all of that in mind, what type of sorcerer works best with this build, and what is a good level to break? I've heard paladin 6 / sorcerer X, but Aura of Devotion seems like a powerful feature and happens at level 7. If going that far, the ASI at 8 is helpful on a MAD build. So would I want to do 8 / X for the split, assuming I even get that high?
Thanks for the advice. I know a few here have played Sorcadins before.
