View Full Version : Speculation What design space is there for a class that specializes on TWF?

I'm slowly working on a class that uses mechanics loosely inspired by 3.5's Magic of Incarnum. Mainly the fluff, so the crunch is mine to change. I want one of the subclasses to specialize in TWF and the other to be a ranged weapon user. Before I get that far, I need some ideas.

What features should a class have to

be competitive with a melee fighter or barbarian (assuming the absence of GWM/PAM for this exercise)
primarily rely on two-weapon attacks
and have new and interesting things (so not simply mimic the monk, ranger, or others)
without being a traditional spell caster. Having a resource pool is fine, but this class should not cast spells from spell slots.


Is there any viable design space left in this mechanical niche? I'm willing to add class-specific features that bump TWF up to normal levels at appropriate levels.
