Do got an odd question. I'm in a campaign and my character is been building a small arsenal. Needless to say he has the right weapon for every occasion. I've been reading the rules on upgrade magic items. I'm currently playing a human fighter martial master show can flex the feat to negate the penalties. So far the loot has been extremely generous and damn lucky to get a nice arsenal like this

How much it would cost to combine a few items with items to conserve slots.

Ring of substance + ring of climbing placed on a ring of forced shield.

Will the price be times squared or there be an actual easier equation. Sadly no one has craft magic item feats. So in stuck at normal cost

If upgrade is a waste of time what would you suggest for better items to replace. Only have limited funds.

Current magic items in possession
Ring of substance
Ring of climb
Cloak of resistance +1
+2 armored coat (griffin mane)
+1 antimantine bastard sword
+2 elven curved blade (ghost touch)
±2 composite shortbow (adaptive)
+3 Warhammer (impact)

This depends entirely on the Dungeon Master that is running your game.

Both 3.5 and PF have the same guidelines about combining magic items that go into a restricted slot like rings:

Take the most expensive, add in 1.5 times the value of everything else. Using the Pathfinder values:

Ring of Force Shield 8500 base
Ring of Sustenance 2500 base * 1.5 = 3750
Ring of Climbing 2500 base * 1.5 = 3750

Thus: 8,500 + 3,750 + 3,750 = 16,000 gold

... assuming you can find someone to craft the ring.

To expand upon this, to upgrade an existing item to one with added abilities, the cost is equal to the cost of the final item minus the cost of the starting item.

So using the example above, adding the Climbing and Sustenance abilities to an existing Ring of Force Shield will cost 16,000 - 8,500 = 7,500 gold.
