View Full Version : More arcane caster specialists? (Beguiler, Dread Necro, Warmage equivalents?)

Are there any third party or homebrew equivalents of the classes like Warmage or Beguiler, where they specialize in a school of magic to 9th level, but from a limited list? Looking through, the only ones WOTC made are the three in the title: an evoker, an illusionist/enchanter, and a necromancer. Has anyone created decent equivalents with abjuration, conjuration, divination, or transmutation?

not too on point; but you could modify the 3rd party pathfinder spherecasting to accomplish a similar goal. it hits the right balance points, though it plays a fair bit different and is a different subsystem to vancian magic.

Hi! I did a huge project (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?317861-Fixed-List-Caster-Project-%283-5%29&p=16545265#post16545265) on the subject a few years back!

I created a Conjurer (summons via class features, and teleport magic), Mage of the Unseen Hand (telekinesis), Night Soul (shadow magic), Ritualist (crafting and funky slow generalist casting), Seer (divinations), Shaper (transmutations and shapeshifting), and Warden (buffs and party support); I turned the Cleric, Druid, and Bard into fixed-list casters; I wrote fixed list for the Paladin, Ranger, and Duskblade; I wrote PrCs to hand out healing spells and tweaked PrCs to access environmental spells; I even gave the existing three tweaks ranging from a fresh coat of paint for the Beguiler to a total overhaul for the Warmage to bring them in line with the rest of the stuff.

Oooh. I'm taking a look through this. Might be exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.

There's the Witch in the DMG (p.175): it's not so much a class as a spell list (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=21425666&postcount=5).

I'm not sure if I'd call is a specialist, but it's meant to represent a thematic spell list.

I'd Play the crap out of a Diviner/Abjurer/Transmuter class.

He inspec
He Protec
But most importantly he reconnec

Lol, it would be really wicked to play as a Liam Neeson in taken kind of mage. Hunting people down, and guarding important targets, then buffing your team to lay on the smack.

Hey!

As an alternate option, you could check out my school-focused classes. In my setting I focus somewhat on how these Instilled-Discipline casters are trained.

http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?484101-4-Fixed-List-Casters

Ward Weaver is Abjuration focused, Magus of Spring is Conjuration focused, Eclectic Seer is Divination focused, and the Meddlemage is Transmutation focused.

Best of luck!
