Hey guys,

My players are lvl 1 and have just departed from Baldur's Gate and are on their way to Greenest. I'd like to make their journey interesting and colorful, but nothing that would take more then one session to complete. They are noobs and it would be interesting to present them the world via encounters (more precisely: events) so, I'd ask for some ideas if you have some.

This is useful:
- a few graves along the road. soma have flowers on them and one is marked "Here lies Jacob Summerwille, a merchand and greatest spice peddler that ever lived".
- massive molehills (remnants of ankheg activity)

This is not:
- While bumming it stumble upon a powerful artifact(eldritch tome, awesome weapon, and etc). The warlock king liches crypt. He wants it back, doesn't outright kill the players once receiving his artifact and actually employs them for a bit.
- They step into the feywild for a bit, only to return to civilization 5 years later.

They are lvl 1, unfamiliar with Faerun, etc. I'd apprecaite all ideas regarding that. thanks :)

-A traveling merchant stops near the party's resting spot, they propose wares and stories of the place the party is going to

-An burnt down tower rests on an hill. If asked, the local farmers tell no one knows what happened to the mage that lived there

-A rogue is playing a game with travelers, at a crossroad. Will the group be willing to take a wager?

1) While passing through a forest, you see a Centaur and a Satyr hurling insults at each other from across the road. It seems to be a neighborly quarrel that is being settled by whomever throws the funniest insult at the other. But they are in need of a judge.

2) The party hears singing and a lute being played around a bend. Once the party rounds the bend, they see an Elven minstrel singing a beautiful, almost otherworldly, tune to himself in the nook of a tree. Once he spots the party, he quickly casts an incantation, and disappears. But it looks like he may have left the lyrics sheet behind.

3) While passing by a graveyard just outside of a small town, the party notices that one of the graves has recently been disturbed. Oddly enough, it looks like the coffin was opened from the inside.

4) In the distance, you see a large shape moving through the air. It looks like a large dragon several miles away is enjoying the fresh fall air.

5) Coming over a hill, the party is stopped by several guards. It appears that you've come to the perimeter set up by the army. The way forward is blocked because a battle is going to be fought soon between X and Y. Does the party want to get involved, or just go around?

6) The party comes across a caravan of a Romani-like people traveling from town to town. It's almost nightfall. Does the party want to stay with the nomadic clan, or seek their own shelter?

7) Traveling down a path through some foothills, the party unexpectedly gets pelted with pies in the face, has honey and feathers dumped on them, and finds their boot laces have been magically tied together. It looks like they've come across a Gnome settlement that isn't too fond of outsiders.

-They run into a travelling caravan of performers who are set up in a small town. After a night of performances, a child of the lead perform is missing and they need help finding them
-Find a spooky Mausoleum with the clacking of bones inside and a warning sign on the outside. Do the PCs break down the door to investigate?
-Find a harvest festival in a local town with games and prizes for non-lethal combat
-Go on (or run into) a hunting expedition with one of the lesser nobles from Baldur's Gate
-The flaming fist is out in force trying to track down a fugitive, and the PCs run into the fugitive who seems like an innocent

I'll edit and add more if I think of more ideas

A great and powerful being descends from the heavens, trumpets blaring and angels singing! It commands them to perform an elaborate task.

Of course, any PC with a good Investigation score or Detect Magic will notice something is up-the descending being is an illusion, the trumpets and angels are from Thaumaturgy, and the being is a low-level Trickster Cleric who's trying to get them to do his work for him.

Alternatively, the PCs (even if they don't notice anything is up) refuse, and the being promises holy wrath, at first, at least. Eventually, it resorts to pleading and cajoling as they walk away, never actually doing anything.

Are you trying to foreshadow anything and what kind of mood are you trying to set?

Here are a couple anyway.

A green-robed woman and a man dressed in green leather, carrying a bow, are roasting several rabbits over a fire. They wave to the party and invite them to join them. If they join, they'll switch to rabbit stew, adding various fantasy herbs and vegetables to make enough for everyone.

In the distance, they spot an aarakocra scout hovering near the sun. It peers at them for a bit, then moves on.

They awake in their campsite in the early dawn hours, and see a crystal tower on the horizon that was not there the evening before. Once the rose colors of dawn fade, and the sun climbs above the trees, the tower disappears.

An Ogre is brewing some kind of booze in a big cauldron. He doesn't have enough wood nor ingredients to finish it, but he doesn't want to waste all the work, so he proposes the adventurers to go peacefully if they help him out.
