The number by each character's name is the sum of the points awarded to the character on all ballots in the Character Popularity Poll thread over the past week. The characters in the Wildcard Blocks are ones that somebody loved, but not enough people gave them points to make it to the Top 12 who have automatic seeding. So they have to fight it out one more time and only one can go on to get the 14th seed.

Whoever wins the 14th seed goes on to face the 3rd Seed in Round 1 of the Tournament. So the character who wins this will take on O-Chul, one on one!

We will start with 2 days allotted for debate and persuasion and then around this time Monday afternoon voting will (officially) begin, and I will begin posting running tallies regularly. The next day on Tuesday the debate stage for another 3 matchups will begin, but the voting will continue on the three that started today until NEXT Saturday.

Once voting begins, you may give 1 point, 2 points, or no points to every character. 1 point means you have positive feelings for that character, and 2 means that you have STRONG positive feelings about that character. You don't have to specifically say you are giving a character 0, if you omit someone from your ballot, that is the assumption, and that would be for any character you have no significant positive feelings about-- whether or not that means you actively dislike the character or are just "meh".

The qualifications for "Favorite" are personal and up to the decision of each balloter alone. This is not a competition for who would win in a fight, or who is the most moral UNLESS that is what makes them YOUR favorite.

The Wildcards especially are where characters that are favorites of only a few compete, so now is the time to make your case for why we should give a point or two to a character we had never thought much about before.

So it's time to debate now, right?

Well... While Lien is a nice Character, it would be too sad to have her going against O-Chul. They are close allys after all. Think of the time they joked about why they would not feel the cold! No, they must not face each other!

Miko on the other hand is a very annoying Char, but voting for her would give our favorite Paladin a chance to finaly kick her backside. A chance he propably would not take, as long as Sabine could not manage to turn Miko Blackguard in the meantime. Now that we talk about Sabine, she can be an ammusing Charakter in her own rights. Not too often, but hey. And, on the plus side, she would be a propper enemy for O-Chul.

Grewview and Veldrina were funny, but I they had so few screentime... Favorite side Charakter? Maybe... Favorite Charakter? No, not realy.

Nale? No! Nothing more to say.
IFCC they are interesting villains and I actualy gave them some points in the original voting. They are flawed by low screentime, but it seems save to say, we will see some more of them.

Mr.Scruffy is a good animal sidekick, but not even close to Blackwing.

Right Eye... did he even appear in the online comic? So no...

Thog? He had some good (evil) scenes, but not enough to get my favorite.
Therkla did her job well, but once again, not enough to be a favorite Char of mine.

Captain Bandana? No strong feelings for her. It would be okay to advance her, but if she does not, I won't be sad either.

More than anyone in this block, I wanna talk about Greyview. Greyview and Oona (but especially Greyview!) are exceptional for filling a vacuum left by the Monster in the Darkness's character development.

The naif who generates punchlines by outrageously misunderstanding every possible thing is a trope Mr. Burlew uses frequently. Obviously Elan and the Monster, but also with Veldrina, for example.

The Monster growing beyond naivete when he finally acknowledges "Mr. Stiffly"'s real name is one of the most significant character arcs in this work.

But afterwards, would he regress, just so that there's someone to leaven the sometimes dark Team Evil scenes with humor? Nope.

Instead, Mr. Burlew brings these punchline pinch hitters late, late, LATE in the game, and they flip the script by being the ones who obliviously misunderstand what the Monster is saying, and endear themselves to the audience about as much as any character has in just ONE scene (so far.) And without "going to the same well one too many times"-- because their misunderstandings are not based on naivete or idiocy like similar comedic foils, but instead on an ingrained cultural traditionalism and stoicism.

Oona is great, too, but I especially love Greyview's "in Soviet Russia" style stoic comedy. He's only been in one scene, but I think that is more an argument for than against, because he has had that much impact and connection in just the one scene.

Ha! He will at least get one nod from me. I think Nale is really underrated.

Admittedly for most of the book, he is a pretty one-dimensional B villain, mainly useful for keeping the Order busy while the A villains are busy with other things. Or setting a contrast to Elan's goodness.

But in his final few scenes leading up to his murder of Malack and his father murdering him, he finally shows more depth and credible motivation. Mr. Burlew really fleshes out Nale there at the end.

This bracket is pretty stacked!

Right-Eye is, in my opinion, one of the most interesting characters in the comic. I even ranked him #7 on my list. Unfortunately, he's only part of a prequel book, so a lot of people don't really know much about him. This is unfortunate and might keep him down.

My feelings for Therkla are so strong that I can barely give any point to anybody else in comparison, even though I appreciate most characters in this bracket. Her story is so tragic, I'm always emotional when I re-read that story arc.

Thog manages to get a point mostly because of the 387-398 arc. And his definition of the most exquisitely torturous way possible (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0258.html).

This one is surprisingly close and the running tally seems to have little relationship with the points each character accrued in seeding.

We'll see what happens. I'm not sure what I'd even do in the case of a tie...

My suggestion: in the case of a tie, the winner is the character with more 2s, as they indicate stronger support. If both tied characters have the same number of 2s, the have a runoff vote.

This block has a lot of characters I like. Miko for her developed character and lawfulness, Thog for the humor, Therkla, because of how much she liked Elan, and her betraying Qarr to help him. Overall, I really don't care who wins, as whoever wins this block will be easily crushed by Vaarsuivius in terms of popularity.

and meh to everybody else. Miko was useful, but annoying, Nale's repetitive, Veldrina was kind of a mashup of better characters (V and Elan), and the rest I don't feel anything at all about.
