Starting a new character with Outlander background and they get a hunting trap. I love the idea of setting this up before encounters and an enemy randomly stumbling into it.

However I can't find anything to say if once it's been used, it's broken. The text says "breaks free of the trap" for a creature escaping it, not breaks the trap.

Can I feasibly collect it after an encounter and reuse it or is there a ruling I've missed about this sort of thing?

IRL a trapper acquaitance has his childhood gift first traps still in use so I think so, talk with DM.

It's 25 pounds of metal. It doesn't break after one use.

It has springs. You just pry it open and reset it.

If it were consumable, it would say so.

Also if a weapon was used to deal damage to the Tramp I would say it at least needs repaired before use again. Otherwise, it is reusable.

I would suggest taking the first bear out of the trap before trying to reuse it though.

Speaking of which, I've had more than a few Str-dump outlander PCs overlook this. It's considerably worse when you're using variant encumberance. But even with standard encumberance, 25 lbs of hunters trap plus 59 lbs of explorers pack eats up a lot of your 120 lb carrying capacity for Str 8.

What, like a bear trap? Yeah those are reusable.
Most hunting traps are really. Even the really old ones (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mQQ688csuw).
