Magical Misfits has a long archive, and many stories. There are a good number of crossovers, and the 2007 storyline was basically one of the front-lines in the massive webcomic crossover war.
A "Decent" place to start would probably be http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/Magical_Misfits/5455537/ -- it's only about three years back, and a good clean point between story arcs.

The world background: Imagine a normal earth. Now, introduce a very strong level of magic. Watch 95% of humans die, and every one that survives become a magical creature of some kind. Now after that settles down, add in a significant war or two, including one that reshapes the landscape on a global level.
Oh, and the strongest wizard did a great job of hiding the fact that he was a wizard for a good length of time. It's out now.
