Hi all, I have had this as an idea in the back of my mind for a while now, an effected character that is very lucky. I would like any ideas for such a character as long as they meet the following requirements.

--Has a lot of luck related powers, like the cleric domain or fatespinner
--Can be effective in whatever it is good at. I don't care if it has a lot of rerolls if it can't hit a single thing or cast a powerful spell
--No Dragon Magazine or 3.0 material that has not been updated to 3.5

Thanks!

Just off hand, Complete Scoundrel has a feat tree of Luck Feats, I've even seen someone play a character whose shtick was being lucky using those feats in an online play by post game (back before Wizards wiped that entire section of boards, but before they exploded the 3.5 forums as a whole).

You might want to look at running some kind of Diviner/Fatespinner, and finding a way to bolt the luck domain onto the build. I don't know how off hand, but someone on these forums probably knows how to TO it. From there, spells like Truestrike (which gives a massive bonus instead of a reroll) and other precognative buffs can act a lot Like luck, in that they are modifying your roll with insight bonuses. And from an in character perspective, someone with a large insight bonus might well look like they are just lucky to be in the right place at the right time, etc, instead of being some kind of anime master of reading attacks and what have you.

In that same vein, Psion is good for having precognitive powers, so going Diviner/Psion/Cerebremancer/Fatespinner might get you where you're going, even if you ultimately take a hit to casting spells and manifesting at your maximum potential. It could at least get you closer to the theme.

Being a Cleric of a luck god might even be a rather casual thing for your character. Unless there's something in the setting that specifies that you Have to act like a stodgy catholic priest, then wandering around and acting much like a rogue, while being subtle with your spells through metamagic options might get you the mileage you are looking for, if you want to have the mechanics of a cleric backing up your concept that falls outside the regular cleric mold.

The Oriental Adventures update article in Dragon magazines 318th issue has the feat audacious attempt. This feat allows a reroll on any skill or ability a check that you can only pass on a roll of 20. So just add modifiers to make your skill use even cooler to get the dc to 20, and then combine with luck feats and that one Divine/ pious feat from complete Divine that allows you to add 1 D6 to any one D20 roll.

Shadow Blade technique is a first-level maneuver from the Tome of battle that allows you to roll two D20 as an attack.

If you want your luck to come from lucky rolls:
wild mage - the strength of your spells is randomized a little bit

If you want luck as a theme:
factotum

factotum gets a lot of abilities that can be explained as extreme luck. The cunning knowledge feature basically lets you have a stroke of luck in one particular skill once per day. Their spellcasting might even be considered luck if you get the right luck-based spells.

So, luck as a theme...

Halfling Cloistered Cleric 5 (Knowledge, Luck, Liberation) / Fortune's Friend 5 / Luckstealer 10
+ Wis
+ Cha (to fuel Luck Devotion and qualify Dallah Thaun's Luck)
+ Dex
Be a ranged attacker / support. Note that Liberation allows re-rolls of failed saves vs. certain types of spell, so it's in-theme.

Level 1 (with 2 Flaws): Luck Devotion, Good Karma, Advantageous Avoidance, and if you're that Hafling race which gets a bonus feat, take Unbelievable Luck
- Use a crossbow.
- You are ranged support.

Level 3: either a [Reserve] feat (Fiery Burst / Winter's Blast) or a [Luck] feat, depending on how much you need to contribute to combat

Level 6 (Fortune's Friend 2): Better Lucky than Good + Dumb Luck

Level 8 (Fortune's Friend 4): Survivor's Luck

Level 9: Dallah Thaun's Luck

... and then into Luckstealer.

You'll lose a lot of caster levels, but that's the price you pay to get lucky.

Put another way: your good fortune costs a fortune.

A different way to go would be an Arcane caster, and build around a few specific spells like ruin delver's fortune, evil eye, unluck, lucky streak, insight of good fortune, and nightstalker transformation.

For PrCs, you'd want Fatespinner 4 for sure.

Baseline might be something like... Sorcerer 6 / Fortune's Friend 5 / Fatespinner 4 / something 5.

If Dragon Magazine were allowed, then Heartfire Fanner 5 would be a neat capstone -- share your [Luck] feats with your allies.
