Reskinning the eldritch knight

Okay so, I love the flavor of a mystic but I hate using unearthed arcana. It feels...wrong, could I reskin an eldritch knight to be psionic and change no abilities just make it seem psionic? Please help.

My DM once reskinned an EK as a 40k Chaos Warrior, using gadgets instead of "magic".

So I don't see why not. Just give it some thought and let your DM know ahead of time.

I thought maybe use the variant spell points ability where u dont use slots but points like the psi points

Spell Point Variant from the DMG should make for a fine 'Psychic Warrior'

Maybe also change available spells to Abjuration & Transmutation instead of Abjuration & Evocation.
