Want to create an Lashunta-inspired race for my Underdark

So, the story behind this is a long and convoluted one, so I'll spare you the hassle. Inspired by the Lashunta, a race of pulp-inspired aliens from Pathfinder where females resemble elves and males resemble dwarves, I want to create a similar race to use in my setting's Underdark or Hollow Earth - however, I want to flip the idea a little by making it that it's the males who resemble (dark) elves and the females who resemble (deep) dwarves. Mostly because I'm not a huge fan of the "guys're ugly and brutish, women are beautiful and graceful" archetype.

But, beyond that basic idea... I have no idea how to progress from there. I could use advice on figuring out what to do with this race from this point?
