This one makes it clear that it is a sequel. The board game is shown and is implied to have upgraded itself to a video game after going untouched for two decades. Well, I am more easily sold on a sequel than a remake, so now this movie has my attention. I kind of wish it acknowledged Zathura as well.
Two things I can see myself missing are:
* The game mixing with the real world. Jumanji had the jungle invade the neighborhood, and one person getting sucked into the game. Zathura sent the house into space. But in WttJ, the protagonists do not even keep their real bodies.
* The really dark moments. The tone seems to be much lighter, though it might get more serious once a protagonist has expended two of their three lives.
