Lost mines of phandelver question, spoilers

In lost mines the background says the mine was destroyed five hundred years ago.

But spectators are only bound for 101 years. What explanations for spectator stilll bring there did everyone use? Just "it went crazy and forgot" seems insuffienct.

I'm considering making it a gauth feeding in the spell forge.

I'm assuming anyone reading this thread understands the spoilers are everywhere. Anyway, it going crazy makes sense. It hasn't seen it's master in centuries, no real meaningful conversation with anything until recent and the very magic of the place is decaying. In this case I would leave it as is. Why do you think the players can make a simple check to bypass him entirely?

I don't have players that have read the Monster Manual. So I didn't explain it at all. It was just there.
