Going back a ways there has been discussion of doing a few more matchups building off of the Favorite Character single-elimination Tournament. Advantages and drawbacks of different formats have been discussed. The format I eventually decided on was a round robin tournament of the six characters who had the best showing in the single-elimination tourney.

These six characters had the best showing based on two different criteria:

They include the four characters who made it to the semi-finals as well as the two who were eliminated in close matches in the quarterfinals by the two characters who went on all the way to the finals.
Also, these six are the characters with an overall positive vote margin. In other words, over the course of the tournament they received more total votes than the votes their opponents received add up to.

The six characters are:

Redcloak
Belkar Bitterleaf
O-Chul
Vaarsuvius
Elan
Roy Greenhilt

Here is the schedule I have worked out for the round robin. It includes matches from the original tournament and the one loser bracket match already completed. Those matches will also count towards this tournament.

Round Open Voting Declare Winner Matchups WINNER Votes for Winner Votes for Opponent Margin
Quarter 2-Sep 9-Sep Redcloak v Elan REDCLOAK 24 22 2
Quarter 5-Sep 12-Sep Belkar v Roy BELKAR 26 25 1
Semi 9-Sep 16-Sep Redcloak v O-Chul REDCLOAK 34 33 1
Semi 12-Sep 19-Sep Belkar v Vaarsuvius BELKAR 38 36 2
Final 19-Sep 26-Sep Redcloak v Belkar REDCLOAK 41 40 1
Bronze 20-Sep 26-Sep O-Chul v Vaarsuvius O-CHUL 26 23 3
RR1 30-Sep 7-Oct O-Chul v Elan O-CHUL 16 11 5
RR1 30-Sep 7-Oct Vaarsuvius v Roy VAARSUVIUS 22 16 6
RR2 3-Oct 10-Oct Redcloak v Roy REDCLOAK 18 13 5
RR2 3-Oct 10-Oct Belkar v Elan ELAN 17 14 3
RR3 7-Oct 14-Oct O-Chul v Roy O-CHUL 18 11 7
RR3 7-Oct 14-Oct Vaarsuvius v Elan VAARSUVIUS 18 14 4
RR4 10-Oct 17-Oct Roy v Elan ROY 16 15 1
RR4 10-Oct 17-Oct Belkar v O-Chul BELKAR 20 17 3
RR4 10-Oct 17-Oct Redcloak v Vaarsuvius VAARSUVIUS 19 15 4

As you can see, I am already behind schedule to post the first two matches. Unless you are on the West Coast, then I'm fine. I'll get those up ASAP.

A Round Robin cries out for a matrix. Here you go:

ROUND ROBIN MATRIX
1st number is Votes For, 2nd is margin,
Red is a Loss

I have updated the matrix above.

Take aways: I predicted that these would all be close-- I have been proven wrong.

Roy's loss to V is the most lopsided so far among these six, but nothing like the drubbing Haley took from V in the quarterfinals.

Elan vs O-Chul got unusually few votes, not sure why. But Roy vs Vaarsuvius was pretty comparable to the quarterfinal rounds in total votes.

There have been no upsets based on how each character already did in the single elimination tournament. But Elan vs Belkar has been neck and neck, we'll see if that changes.

If there's an upset, it'll be very easy to see. If you see red in the top-right half of the matrix, that'd be an upset.

So that's it, then? Round Robin's over?

Who won? Redcloak?

Yes, everything above is now updated. And that's it for the round robin.

There are many ways to slice it, but since one character has the highest number of wins, yes:

Redcloak is Round Robin Champion!!

Well, poopy.

Thanks for running the thing, alwaysbebatman! That was fun and enlightening. I never knew how much I hated Redcloak until this tournament/Round Robin :smalltongue:

Yep, that's the tie-breaker.

VOTING IS CLOSED

REDCLOAK IS CHAMPION!!!

Well, Redcloak is surely popular.

Redcloak got the most wins both in a single-elimination tournament of 16, and in a round robin of 6. And that IS impressive. I'm not trying to take anything away from him by saying there are many ways to slice it.

NameTotal WinsTotal
VotesTotal
Margin
Redcloak41325
Belkar31382
Vaarsuvius31189
O-Chul311011
Roy181-18
Elan179-8

Here's a sortable table, so you can rank by whichever stat you like!

Highest vote total is Belkar, highest sum of margins is O-Chul.

I'm still shocked at how unpopular Haley become. :smallfrown:

Agreed. She's still my favourite.

I mean, I myself love Haley but I probably wouldn't vote for her over Belkar, Redcloak or V, or even Roy. I would pick her over O-Chul, and probably Elan. But writing-wise, she didn't really get explored on the same level as the other characters on that list (one of whom has an entire origin book, and a heap of her early-to-mid writing suffered from teething pains and Token Girl Character stuff. So I don't think it's that she's unpopular, but rather that the characterisations of her competitors stand out that much more on account of being excellent and not just good.
