View Full Version : Lysinrdra's Legions (IC)

Lightning rips across the battle field, there is a storm brewing above but for now Green Company (this name can be changed later) of Lysindra's Legions could care less about such things, of more immediate importance is the 5 fire giants they are now in battle with.

After several successful missions together, Green Company were called into meeting with Elinon herself, although every one of you was personally recruited (and presumably vetted by her) you have never been given a case directly by her. This time its different, showing that you are moving up in the ranks. Even the new girl Minara is there,
which means she is now likely a permanent member of your company. Getting right to the point, Elinon tells the company that several days ago, a peaceful village on the west face of the Telgar mountains was raided by fire giants, who killed about 1/4 of the inhabitants and stole a ceremonial cup from them. The villagers are clearly over matched by fire giants, but since the task of protecting the weak and innocent falls to Lysindra's Legions, she has taken on the case and assigned it to you. As always, the rules are, the cup is to be returned to the village,
but the spoils of the giants are yours to keep.
You were teleported to the village and proceeded to track the giants into the mountains, clearly the giants did not fear reprisal because they made no attempt to cover their tracks,
and it wasnt the hardest thing in the world to do. The tracks lead to a cave where there were 5 giants standing outside, obviously on guard, while the villagers werent a problem,
the Telgars are not the safest of mountains, and you crouched behind a rock to make plans for an attack. Unfortunately, you picked the wrong rock to hide behind, because when someone leaned against it, it promptly rolled away, and precipitated the battle just starting now.

DR 5/Adamantine, 60% fortification
Total defense (= AC 42)

"Hey guuuuys," a voice from above says in Giant. The fire giants see a young woman just... leisurely stroll through the air above and nearby them, grinning like the Cheshire Cat on its day off. She wears a vibrant red top, as if the finest cloths were wrapped around her upper torso, running together at the choker around her neck. A short skirt of the same color accompanies the look, as does almost etherial see-through material seemingly flowing around her body, almost like a thin veil of starlight, sometimes concealing, sometimes revealing. Red light seems to have gathered around her arms, darkening as goes towards the fingers, until it looks like her hands are garbed in thin black gloves, something similar being seen starting just above the knees, until her feet are clad in black shoes emerging from the comfortable dark color.

"Ooh, that's gotta hurt, being the sad sacks stuck with guard duty. But hey, you get whatcha deserve. Sure beats getting laughed out of the bedroom by the gals again, am I right?" She seems to just lay down in the air and yawn, as if there was an invisible piece of furniture, her chin resting on her knuckles. "Ah, who am I kidding, you're used to that already, ain'tcha? Probably couldn't even make me shut up." Somehow, her grin becomes even wider as she is making the giants feel woefully inadequate.

Even if the others don't understand Giant, it's easy to see Nuisica is in her element, taunting the opposition. At least she is wearing more or less proper Lysindra's Legion garb on the mission, or at least right now. Not like when she showed up to Elinon's meeting as if she just woke up in a top and pants only one or two steps removed from pyjamas. Barefoot, too, her once magical boots long made into anklets, since she can't be bothered to just walk on the ground everywhere. Walking on air is so much more comfortable. Well, on the upside, the girl is quite generous with her magical breakfasts, so that's always a lovely way to start the morning while people prepare spells, techniques, get their things ready and whatnot.

Meanwhile, the giants feel the annoying girl's words wrap around them. Not only is she a pesky human and possible threat, they just can't take those insults lying down now, can they? It would hurt their souls to do so, surely. And the girl is in ideal rock throwing distance, too.

Everyone benefits from the effects of Heroes' Feast (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/heroesFeast.htm), due to Nuisica's Horn of Plenty.

Bluff to generally taunt the enemy and look like a supremely fitting target to chuck rocks at during her free action speech. Take 12 due to Tall Tale's Exaggerated Ease and Skill Mastery in Bluff for a result of 40.

Move action: fly up and towards the giants

Free action (due to Dawnguard): use 12 motes to use her Challenge illumination targeting all 5 giants. They get no save, there is no attack roll. They all take a -6 penalty to attacks not made against Nuisica until they aren't affected by the Challenge anymore or the end of Nuisica's next turn, whichever comes last. The next time they attack or force a save against anyone but Nuisica during the next 6 rounds, they take [roll0] untyped damage. Once damaged this way, the Challenge ends for them (until Nuisica reapplies it, that is).

Free action Use Limit Boost to make her Defiant costume act like 7 motes were invested in it until the end of Nuisica's next turn. This means she has DR 5/Adamantine and 60% fortification.

Standard action: Total defense (which also activates the extended deflection of her Exaggerated Concentration)

Adia considers some words for the young girl above her, but decides against them. There's precious little point, and from everything she's seen of her, Nuisica can certainly take it. Unlike Minara, her erstwhile charge. The Elan certainly had power, but it was the type that required application at a distance. Up close, she was vulnerable. Which meant that the giant right in front of them? Well, it just had to go. Fortunately, it was well within reach, and she'd had half a dozen Initiates unload their practice spells on her shortly before they left. It took a while to top her up to full these days, but that always managed to do it. The familiar blue-silver fire condensed around her hands, and lines spun through them, tracing the shape of two matching blades. Due to the nature of her weapons, she had a habit of throwing them around. It helped that it often worked.

And Nuisica was providing the perfect distraction, now wasn't she.

"This one's mine." She whispered, and reached for the bonfire within. The fire answered, wrapping around her body, her weapons, and stretching out into the world itself. To mortal eyes, she seemed to fade away, like a silver ghost rippling in the rising wind. Light and spellfire bloomed around Asi as he lay in her hands, and three more incarnations of her heart lurked in the void between, begging to be set free. She would not deny them.

It was almost too fast to follow, a wind of half-seen magic bound to the shapes of steel, lancing across the short distance between her and the giant that had revealed them. Energy lanced between the storm, mirroring the lightning crashing across the sky, and the web of light and magic hissed into the closest giant like a thunderbolt. Five weapons of blazing power dug deep into the creature's skin, uncaring of the protections it offered against more mundane powers. Then a sixth, born of pure radiance that she'd almost forgotten about, slammed into his chest. A musical tone of crackling power echoed in the space between giant and Lightwielder.

Sixfold power, cut the strings Adia incanted in her mind, and silver fire erupted around the giant as the power of her weapons broke free. It really wasn't fair, but she'd never been taught to fight fair. Survival had always been more important. Now these giants would learn the cost of threatening their wards.

Minara is not quite sure why she was woken up. The world doesn't seem to be ending just yet. But then; she is here, and she has a mission to do. It's not really her place to argue.

These giants, however, seem quite in need of a rebuke. Minara is here; so she'll help do so.
She rises up, floating in midair effortlessly, her armored robes fluttering faintly in a nonexistent breeze. She floats forwards, trying to get into the thick of the battle - between Nuisica and Adia, near as many of the giants as possible. She has no fear of danger, of course, for she knows the light protects her.

She raises a hand, intoning words of protection in celestial, and a pale blue light sprang up around her - and her nearest allies. Nothing else would seem to change, until one of them was struck. With that done, she bought round both her hands, and point her palms to one of the giants.
A torrent of frost leaps forth, not ceasing, arcing from that giant to another, psionic power radiating from the 'ancient' elan as she harnesses her mind to freeze them in place.

I presume we're already in costume. I also always have Scorn Earth active, so I have 166/173 power points. (Duration is 12 hours, so it basically lasts all adventuring day? tell me when it ought to run out and I'll activate it again.)

I take a move action to get in. 30ft movespeed. Try to get within 10ft of both Nuisica and Adia, but prioritise the former as she's drawing fire. I also want to be within 55ft of an unoccupied giant, and ideally that giant is ITSELF within 15ft of another unoccupied giant.

Then, as a swift action, I use my Frozen Sentinel surge.
"Allies within 10ft, including the user, are marked with Innocence for three rounds. Anyone that deals damage to them in that time takes 1 damage for each 3 damage they dealt."

Finally, as my standard action, I manifest Energy Current: Cold for 12pp. This has 55ft range and deals 12d6+24 cold damage to the target, and then half that much damage to another target within 15ft of the primary target. (I'm so glad we're fighting fire giants, they're weak to my favorite element =D)
They can make a fortitude save to halve the damage, with DC 24.

I can maintain this power with concentration. Doing so is a full round action, taking damage forces me to take a Concentration check. If the target dies I can redirect it.
154/173 power points left for the day, 6/18 motes left for the round.

While her companions (still feels a bit weird thinking like that, 'companions') pour the torrents of magic onto the giants, Raina dashes forward. For her, it's simply not a proper fight without the excitement of dancing between the enemies' blades... clubs... whatever these giants are wielding. Speaking of dancing... the girl, clad in black-and-red dress with long skirt cut on the sides leaving her long, fit legs revealedin their entirety, raises her hand and snaps her fingers, "Music, please!"

Obeying her command, a galoping melody bursts into the scene, only heard by the members of the Green Company, and the wielders of Light feel the almost inhuman tempo of the music call them, making their movements sharper, faster, more precise.

"That's better!" and Raina dashes towards the neares giant and leaps towards him, extending her leg, her foot, pointed like that of a ballet dancer, reaching forward as a tip of the spear. Bright white light envelops her leg as she pierces the nearest giant - and then, spinning like a top, strikes three more times with either leg before even touching the ground.

Familiar yet still ever-so-loud and booming laughter echoes throughout the battlefield. "Have no fear, for I" An imposing and virtually colossal figure takes the centre of the battlefield alongside Nuisica, adorned in plated blues and golds, as it raises a glimmering shield to protect their ally. "AM HERE!" At that moment Kouta realises that there are no villagers that need saving, no need for hope, only foes; bullies even.

"Very well! If inspiration and hope are undesired, then prepare yourselves, SENTINEL SLAM!" With a mighty roar, the steadily expanding Kouta Mamoru charges forward, aiming to focus fire with his allies as his shield collides with his target's face with a mighty explosion of blinding golden light, threatening to take even a Giant from their feet. "BEGONE!"

Kobayashi Riko

Riko had never planned to be in a legionnaire. She was a librarian and a scholar of subjects both common and esoteric. She could hardly have expected her discoveries to lead her to a secret cavern under a church and a sleeping legend. It was still rather surreal, she thought, to be fighting alongside someone she had (until recently) thought to be just a myth. Oh, she definitely enjoyed it though. After all, it's rare for anyone to meet their idol; rarer still, when said idol was someone who was born several centuries ago.

Shaking away thoughts of the past, Riko flew in close to her allies, sighing internally. She was still rather disappointed that her company instantly jumped to combat as a first resort, but she supposed it was to be expected. With a flick of her staff, a shell of starlight pulsed out from her, swirling around her allies to form a protective barrier against the harms of the world.
Another flick sent a bright wave of iridescent light toward the assembled fire giants, sinking into their skin and lying dormant as the barest glow to her eyes. "..."

Move: Fly within 15 ft Nuisica (but also trying to be within 15 ft of as many others as possible).

Swift: Evoke Starshield, granting 60 temporary HP to all allies within 15 ft for 2 rounds.

Standard: Evoke Starflare Absorption in a 30 ft cone that targets as many fire giants as Riko can hit. They take untyped damage the next time they take damage from any other source (Reflex DC 23 half).

(Please keep track of the bonuses everyone else gives you, as that is quite beyond me)

The battlefield explodes into action as the legion of magical girls (and one guy) takes on the giants. The spellfire from Aida is devastating, totally ripping one of the giants apart before he even knows what is hitting him. Minara, Raina and Kouta all connect with their opponents to only slightly lesser effect, while Kobayshi's withering cone only furthers the damage they are taking. And despite the fact that they face targets on the ground, 2 of the giants look up (Minara's, Kouta's) look up and decide that Nuisica would make a better target to throw rocks against.

232/232 HP, 60 THP (lasts until next round)
AC 42 (dex bonus, fighting defensively), DR 5/Adamantine, 60% fortification
Temporary effects: Heroes' Feast, +8 Dex, Innocence (3 rounds; attackers take 1 damage for every 3 caused to Nuisica)
Effects Nuisica put on enemies: Challenge (first attack/save forced not against Nuisica takes 49 damage), Demanding Luminosity (-6 to attack rolls not against Nuisica), Defiant cartridge boost (one giant may have been blinded against anyone but Nuisica)

Nuisica blows kisses to her beautiful companions who shower her richly with love and support. Mmh, the feel of the light suffusing and washing over her, so many lovely voices, so many fluid motions. They sure are getting into it as well, while she continues to laze about in the air. Can't fault them for that, really.

"Aww, look at you. Really not your day, is it?" Nuisica chuckles, seemingly "swimming" higher into the air above the giants with a slow grace as if she were floating among currents. "Now now, don't be sad. C'mere boys, I'll make it all better," she says sweetly, making a little come hither gesture, with the giants suddenly feeling an upwards pull, but nothing much happening. The giants have a feeling they just avoided something very unpleasant, though one thinks Nuisica just winked at him, tempting him to only have eyes for her, in a way.

"Ooh, almost. Let's try that again, it's sooo lonely up here."

Free Action: Limit Boost Defiant costume, acts as if 7 motes are invested in it (DR 5/Adamantine, 60% fortification)

Swift Action: Cartridge Boost on Defiant costume's effect. The least damaged giant not aiming for Nuisica has to make a DC 23 Will save. If the save fails, the giant is considered blinded against anyone but Nuisica for the next 7 rounds or until Nuisica ends her turn more than 60 feet away, whichever comes first.

Move Action: Nuisica moves 20 feet upwards.

Standard action: Blast (Lures), targetting all four living giants while fighting defensively.
Ranged touch attack (compared against touch AC of all targets) [roll0]
Every target hit is pulled 60ft (or right next to her, whichever comes first; Nuisica probaby isn't more than 20 to 30 feet above the giants) straight towards Nuisica into the air and takes 1d6 damage for every 10 feet travelled and they are knocked prone.
Of course, since they can't fly, they'll fall after the attack, too.
Nope, natural 1.

With the initial salvo fired, Kouta's guardian instincts kick in, his massive bulk solidifying into an unflinching bastion. For a brief moment, the intense focus of his stare makes him appear even more gigantic, as if his fist could strike at a far greater distance than even the Giants' massive arms could manage. "VERY WELL VILLAIN, IF YOU STAND YOUR GROUND, THEN I SHALL NOT HOLD BACK!" He strikes suddenly from his guarded position, two swift blows to the body taking the wind from his foe, before a brief glint of light reveals that the lad has suddenly ducked low, fist trailing faint sunlight in the shadow of his rising shield. When his gauntlet connects with the Giant's chin, there is another sudden explosion of bright golden light, ensuring that the evildoer goes flying.

Swift action: Change active Stance to "The Anvil". Kouta's speed drops to half its usual value, but he can make an additional 7 attacks of opportunity per round, and gains an extra 25ft reach. (Reduce Speed to 10ft, 8 AoOs/round, 30ft Reach).

Words. Taunting. They were part of her fellows, and she'd come to respect that those qualities that she couldn't change. But they weren't part of her. Adia was a quiet creature, her few words underscored with a primal fire. Only barely tamed by the fragile trappings of Light that she held close to her heart, with Asi at their centre. Without him...she still wasn't sure what she might have become. Yet she was here now, and as she'd been taught, would give no respite to the wicked. Her duty was that of a blade in the light, burning away its foes. Not for any idea of faith, simply because she believed it was the right thing to do. It might not win her friends, but it won her battles. That was really all that mattered.

A single enemy remained unharmed. That would not last.

The light of her armour shifted, fading slightly as her need for some of its power lessened. Shards of silvery blue gathered around Minara, matching those around Adia as her power gathered to guard her against the possibility of hidden foes. Another six blades coiled around her soul, and her hands tightened around the blades of the first two. Her companions could handle the wounded. The roar of a lion echoed from the sword in her left hand, joined by a twin. Then four siblings more, bellowing from her heart. Adia's ethereal form blurred across the battlefield, wreathes of brilliant spellfire bursting to life around the weapons in and out of her hands. Then she struck once more, a torrent of relentless flame pouring out of a shimmering patch of air above the giant's head.

HP 195/195, 60 THP (2 rounds)
AC 22
+8 Dex (2 rounds)
Heroes' Feast (+1 attack, +1 Will) (?? Hours)
+1 hit on FA (1 round)

Landing next to the giant, Raina looks around, casually kicking the giant's weapon away and rolling towards him, ending up between his legs.

"You should've told me you're lonely!" she calls out to Nuisica with a laugh, "Sending you some company!"

With that, she plants her hands to the ground and, doing a handstand, throws her legs upwards, aiming at the giant's... sensitive part, with force enough to send the massive body flying.

If attacked in melee before my round, initiate Manticore Parry: [roll0], if that's more than the attack, it's redirected against another adjacent giant (or negated if no suitable target)
Move action: Tumble into giant's space. [roll1]
Attack: Evoke Juggler's Kick [roll2], on hit damage [roll3], and the giant is thrown 60 feet away from Raina, taking additional [roll4] damage and landing prone. If not, giantbeing thrown upwards in an ark is just fluff and it lands 60 feet away.

And just like, in blinding fashion, the rest of the giant threats are disposed of. Raina deals a kick to a damaged giant, enough to finish him off. Aida's attacks on the last unwounded giant are more than enough to finish him off and she redirects her remaining attacks to finish off a fourth. Nuisica and Koutu deal a combined damage to the last foe and with that, he topples over dead...leaving Riko and Minara without targets to deal with.
The party is now standing in front of a yawning cave mouth. With the speed they dealt with the guards, they know no one has been alerted within. (or so they think)

With a grin, Kouta shrinks back down from an overly muscular grinning hero, to a overly tall skinny blonde with the same grin. While everyone else might have seen Kouta's "real" form before, it's always quite a surprise just how goofy the same expression can look on him when he's like this. "Great job everyone!" he says with enthusiasm, giving an excited thumbs up and a wide smile. Despite the sheer not-quite-naivete of his voice, it never quite comes off as trite or sarcastic. He's always just genuinely happy to see you and proud of you. Concern touches Kouta's grin for a moment "Is anyone hurt?"

Nuisica "ooh!"s as the giant is sent flying towards her, before squinting at the giant and going "Hmmnah, not my type," and she seems to casually push the giant away, making him bounce back towards the ground in comical fashion.

With the fight done before it even really began, Nuisica returns to (near) the ground in a spiral pattern as if on an invisible slide, where she stretches, then sits down on an invisible lounging chair. "Oh, I'm fine, hun," she says to Kouta. "Let's take a little breather and search these guys, shall we?" And she does as she says, lazily dancing through the air from giant to giant to look for magic items and such, letting her inner light regain all of its splendor.

"Seriously?" Raina, after launching the giant in flight, stayed in the handstand position, preparing to combo it into the next move - and didn't bother getting back to her feet once the battle was over. Standing on one hand and raising the other to shield her eyes from the sun, she observes Nuisica's antics with a mix of amusement and impatience, "Don't tell me you're tired already - I can dance all day long!" she pushes herself off the ground and flips to her feet with a somersault, "Let's go!"

Raina is correct." Adia's voice was a low thing, still cracked by the pain of her past, but she could force it to be clear. Flickering back into sync with reality, she returned her reserves to their proper places, coaxing another burst of radiant power from its slumber. "We should continue our mission. Those were only a guard force, the real enemy lies within." Even as she talked, she flitted between the fire giants, depositing their oversized weapons into the the satchel fastened securely at her waist. Waste not, want not, after all.

"I would rather know what is ahead of us, however, so I will scout ahead of us." She tapped the curved lenses over her eyes, bringing forth a flash of magic if no one disagreed.

Be sure to direct the angry bees in your pants towards the giants, they love that sort of thing." And without delay, she begins to stroll through the air into the cave. Whether Adia wants to go ahead or not is more or less the same to her, she is going at her speed and once giants are met, giants are met.

Well, no one seems injured, so Kouta breathes a sigh of relief and gives a warm smile to his more silent companions. "We really should keep moving, heroes' work is never done." He hangs back a little, defending from a central position among the remainder of the group. He's well aware that Adia would not appreciate the steady clank that his armour makes, and he trusts them all well enough now to not quite be so motherly. After all, all heroes put their lives on the line with the same determination, he would be doing them a disservice if he did not allow them that much, even if he does still worry.

Kobayashi Riko

Sighing as the last of the giants fall, Riko lands daintily next their corpses and closes her eyes. She murmurs a soft prayer under her breath, "Be now at peace," before peeking curiously into the cave. Frowning slightly, she looks back to Adia and gestures to the dead giants and the scars of battle in front of them.

"It would be quite a miracle if none of them heard this brouhaha we made over a couple of guards, so going alone probably isn't the best of ideas." Riko pushes up her glasses on her face and smirks in bemusement. "We should either go in immediately while we still have some modicum of the element of surprise on our hands, or we should wait until they've investigated and strike when they've extended beyond their fortifications."

Minara sighed, letting the frost gutter and fail, looking across the injured and unconscious giants. A large part of her said she should check they were well; but she had a mission she needed to pay attention to.
"I'm not overly fond of stealth." she said, softly. She was going to add something about acceding to their judgement of the situation, but then Nuisica started moving anyway, so she just sighed and followed along, floating behind her gracefully.

The party slowly makes their way into the cave, with Aida floating ahead in the lead. The cave narrows as it comes to the back, only wide enough for single file walking, which is fine since she is leading. It doesn't take long however for her to come across a spot where it widens up and in this cave are more fire giants (4) and 2 humans, both wearing robes and insignia which mark them as followers of Kotep Arasin. The group appears to be watchful, either they did hear some sounds and are antsy, or they are just more cautious than the ones outside.

Nuisica, second in line, raises her hands in question while looking at Adia, her standard way of asking "should I stay or should I go?". To be honest, if there are Kotep mages, she'd love to have some spells lobbed her way, that's always fun.

If Adia gives the go signal (or things take too long), Nuisica will just merrily stroll into the cave to greet the chumps there.

Adia held up a hand to Nuisica to pause her advance for a moment, then pointed to herself and the two humans wearing symbols of Kotep. Power rippled around her, gathering for the assault that would begin the battle anew. Three cartridges left. Two after this. That would be enough. Surprise, and the two blades of power united within her soul, would be enough for her. She could only hope that the rest of the company would follow. From her experience, they were pretty good about that. Radiant energy crackled for an instant, shifting into a new configuration. Then she loosed the knot of power woven between her and the blade that shared her soul. Asi wasn't happy about this course of action, but that was more a facet of the blade's desire for vengeance then fear for her life. Because this time, she wanted prisoners.

The world swam out of focus, the weighty concerns of her body fading to nothing below the radiant splendor of her soul, and she took one step. Then she was elsewhere. Between the two robed figures. A pillar of blue and silver fire, in the shape of a woman, and blinding in intensity to even the greatest magesight. Flashes of power spun from her hands into the closer mage, blooming into bursts of lethal fire. The first attack was wreathed in a burst of bound elemental force that cared little even if you could resist four parts of it's five. Her own small denial of Koptek's power, as only a handful of his faithful could ward themselves against every form of elemental power.

If or when the figure fell, she would step back, and send the remaining pulses of intertwined light and spellfire into their associate.

Free Action: Shift all motes out of Radiant Armaments, splitting all motes between Twinned Device and Mote Pool
Twinned Device at 12m, one Tricky and four Bolt copies of Asi. Mote pool at 12/24.

Unless I am greatly mistaken, the enemy will be flat-footed here, which means that Advantageous Strike is in effect. If both humans drop before she's out of attacks, the final one(s) will be directed at the nearest Fire Giant.

All attacks will target the Touch (and probably Flat-Footed) AC of Adia's targets.

"Hoo boy, too bad there's no spell to stop you from being crap mages. But hey, look on the bright side: I'm volunteering for target practice! Maybe you'll even rustle my hair a little." Nuisica seems to slide slowly through the air, as if she were skating on ice at a very leisurely pace, smiling widely to the two mages.

The movement described above is just fluff. Nuisica does, howver, deliberately position herself between the mages and the party (or at least the squishier party members).

If I can also use a Free action along with the action I get to do, I'll spend 12 motes on my Challenge Illumination to mark the two mages and all four giants (as per Dawnguard). They take -6 to attacks not aimed at Nuisica for the duration of the Challenge mark or the end of Nuisica's next turn, whichever comes last. The first time they attack someone other than Nuisica, they take [roll0] damage and are no longer marked.

As for the action Nuisica gets, she uses Total Defense, granting her a +8 dodge bonus to AC and priming her Exaggerated Concentration.
