Si I was thinking, for the weapons that deal 1d12 or d8 or something along that line making it 2d6 or 2d8 eta eta... What exactly would be the major changes? I'd imagine a small bump to avg damage...

Replacing 1d12 with 2d6 does indeed increase average damage. It also reduces the swingyness on damage. 1d12 has the same chance to roll a 7, 1 ir 12. 2d6 will hit 7 far more often than 2 or 12.

So it would not break the game or anything else right? I am thinking about houseruling it that way as most my players choose the greatsword and similar just to avoid the swing...

In 3.5 it doesn't make a difference afaik. In 5e there are some abbilities that add a wepon damage die under some circumstances, which will only add 1d6 for a 2d6 weapon(but 1d12 flor a 1d12 weapon), but I don't think 3.5 has any such mechanics.

I didn't think so, but felt it was best to make sure.

If it helps, in PF's custom weapons section, you can choose to upgrade a 1d10 weapon to do either 1d12 or 2d6. 1d6 upgrades to either 1d8 or 2d4.

I rather dislike the shift to all d6 as weapon damage goes up. The curves just keep getting sharper and the average gets tighter.

Colossal greataxe should be 4d12 or 2d20 or something

Should redo the whole table.
Split the weapons into 2 categories. Those with tight averages (lots of dice), and those with lots of variance, where the dice just tend to get bigger.

They don't all have to be the same die type either. You could bump a d12 to a d10+d2. The d12 has an average of 6.5, but the d10+d2 has an average of 7. Keeps the high variance but increases the average.

Need a d16 in there.
Sure you can do it oldschool with a +/- die and a d8, but it'd be better if we could just change the rules of geometry to make a true regular polyhedral.

Setting Euclid on fire and throwing him out the window kind of seems more in line with Call of Cthulhu than D&D.
