This is the fifth in a series of covering the history of my setting from creation through the present day - sometime around 4500 CA, or Current Age. This post covers some additional early recorded history known to those in the present day and is the state of Primaterra circa 900 DA, or Dark Age/Age of Darkness - the equivalent of -900 CA.

As with all of my setting posts, this is very much a WIP and any/all criticisms, questions, comments, or suggestions ARE VERY WELCOME!

Centuries of methodical, and diabolical, progress by the Demon King Uozuemon has seen his beach heads on the mainland grow into full penninsulas of total control - nothing but destruction and blight left in his wake and the country side around. Beyond these strongholds, Ouzuemon's armies plague the entire continent and smaller bastions of civilization had all but been eliminated. The only two forces of note remaining to opposed the destructive onslaught were the dwindling, but stalwart Sisvar in the northeast and an rebellious civilization known as the Mechkanans to the south west. Uozuemon's powerful and growing armies posed a cataclysmic threat to all the world and it was at this time that support flooded to the mainland opposition in order to at least slow his advance.

After open war with Uozuemon's forces, the Sisvar armies and people withdrew from their coastal settlements and into their interior defensive positions. Using the natural terrain and their network of stronghold positions, the Sisvar armies were able to stem the advance of Ouzeuemon's marauders. They realized, however, that time was not their ally in the war and decisive, perhaps even risky, battles would have to be fought and one if their civilization was to survive. However, in the meantime, the proud giant races were emboldened by their cult religions and divinely powerful champions.

The stagnation of the Realm of Istronen continued through the centuries. Though the collapse of the Tliish Empire to the north gave them a reprieve and access to new resources and subjugate-able populations, it was not nearly enough to bring about the prosperity and dominating power they once held. The wars waged by Ouzuemon, though distant from their homeland, had sent ripples throughout the world economy. Desperate and growing pirate nations to one side, cataclysmic wars to another, and a forming empire lead by powerful elemental mages riding dragons all left the Realm of Istronen languishing in the tides of time.

The Queen of the Last Kiss died in 1012DA and after a brief civil war, was replaced by a theocracy of cult leaders, collectively known as the Cults of Harlorbb. These cults each had beliefs and dogmas only slightly different from one another, and all still generally followed the Drow pantheon. While there was initial damage done by the civil war, the Empire as a whole continued to thrive and expand their subterranean rule. The Cult's influence over the population strengthened the bond of the Empire - as much united as Drow could expect to be, anyway. The new religious fanaticism, along with their racial tendencies, made the Saudara Empire incredibly isolationist - defending their subterranean borders with extreme ferocity, hoping to keep the bane of Ouzuemon at bay.

The Vlosanum’re Kingdoms flourish and expanded in the era of worldwide strife, bringing the plundered riches of the world back to their home ports. While their hit-and-run tactics worked exceedingly well against merchant and small military targets, total war simply was not an option for the thin scaled naval kingdoms. Typical of pirates, a number of successive rulers transitioned through power - only those with particularly decisive victories had any sort of staying power. During this era, Aash'klan Yirtonae stood out as one such ruler, as he secured mainland ports and holdings on two continents - prime bases of operations for coastal raids throughout the region.

Similar to the Realm of Istronen, stagnation and gradual decline befell the Koot Atta after many centuries. Fully withdrawn into the mainland fortress city and the unforgiving terrain around it, the Necromancer King Alnatkad bide his time, knowing that any moment Ouzuemon's forces could target his holdings as the next greatest threat or the next softest target. Indeed, the greater the threat loomed to King Alnatkad's long lived rule, the madder he became. More demanding of his subjects and more reckless with his raids in an attempt to secure scraps of power.

Emperor Valdrasko, the first and most powerful of the Uru'Shek Riders used powerful elemental magic to spawn powerful dragons that were bound to him. After mastering the process, he shared the secrets with his most powerful and trusted henchmen and seized control over a large territory. Fearful of the threat Ouzuemon posed should he ever cross the Abyssal sea, the Uru'Shek Riders focused greatly on solidifying their holdings and growing their own personal power to be prepared for whatever might come to them. Though they became less outwardly aggressive after their initial take-over, no one confused the Uru'Shek with benevolent rulers. Slavery and sacrifice of their people were the norm and the Riders were truly feared.

Modern scholars still look back on the rise of the Mechkanans as a bit of a mystery. The source, technology, and magic (or combination thereof) of their powerful weapons has never been reproduced in modern times - assuming of course, that historical records can be believed. The backbone of the Mechkanans military was powerful weapons, armored battlesuits, and warmachines that were unmatched. The Mechkanans were primarily Gnomes, at least in positions of power both politically and militarily, but indeed welcomed any who sought to wage total war against the forces of Ouzuemon. The Kingdom came to be after the liberation of the City of Kohr, which became the capital, as well as the surrounding peoples. Following the city's liberation, an aggressive to drive Ouzuemon's forces back to their borders and gain support was successful and for the first time there was a glimmer or hope among those opposed to Ouzuemon that his aggression could be stopped and even reversed.
